Under the crushing force of pure power, the magical greatsword shattered with a thunderous crash. For the first time, disbelief appeared in Hela's eyes. Since her debut, no one had ever survived this combination of magical attacks, yet Beckett had done it.
Her ink-black hair whipped wildly in the gale, but Hela herself was far less carefree than her hair.
Three forbidden-level spells had nearly drained her body dry.
Since her debut, the number of times she had needed magic could be counted on one hand. Most of the time, she could crush everything in her path with her formidable martial prowess.
Hela, who could create weapons without limit and control them with a thought, was a terrifying weapon in large-scale warfare. For that very reason, after growing up, Hela had focused more on awakening her divinity and cultivating the Asgardian divine power within her. She had not delved too deeply into the magic her mother had taught her.
"You lost, Hela Odinsdottir." Beckett, who had smashed through the barrier between life and death with a single punch, descended from the sky and landed before Hela. Behind him, golden fragments scattered across the ground.
They were the fragments of the Golden Greatsword.
The silver breastplate on his chest remained completely intact, casting a dazzling gleam beneath the setting sun. Beckett stretched out his right hand and clutched Hela by the throat.
"Rejoice! The great descendant of the Titans, Son of Thanos, young His Highness Beckett, has defeated Odin's daughter from Asgard! This will surely be a battle worthy of being recorded in history!"
The flattering voice of The Other rang out at just the right moment, interrupting Beckett and Hela's stare-down.
The Other, who had climbed up from the ground with his scepter in hand, was still singing praises of his master Beckett when he suddenly received two icy stares. His words caught in his throat, and for a moment, he did not know what to say.
Could it be that his congratulatory speech had been wrong?
The Other's mind raced as he considered whether he ought to read more after returning, to expand his vocabulary. After all, saying nothing but "Rejoice!" over and over did make him seem somewhat uneducated.
"Do you usually live surrounded by this kind of praise?" Hela, held by the throat in Beckett's grasp, showed no fear whatsoever. Instead, she seemed quite interested in The Other, who was flattering Beckett.
Although a subordinate like this seemed rather over-the-top, once she accepted the premise of his shameless self-promotion, it somehow felt unexpectedly satisfying.
"You still don't seem to understand your situation." Beckett ignored The Other behind him, who was still holding his scepter high and reciting Beckett's past glories. His frost-cold gaze returned to Hela's face, and his fingers tightened around her throat. Only then did a trace of pain appear on Hela's face.
"Beckett, that's your name, isn't it?" Outwardly, Hela's breathing grew increasingly labored.
"Now, I can be certain that Thanos never taught you how to deal with an Asgardian mage."
The pain on Hela's face vanished abruptly, replaced by an unusual smile. Beckett frowned. Before he could consider what Hela meant, his instincts had already made him dodge.
Several weapons forged from magical metal swept past Beckett, while the Hela before him had already turned into an inflatable doll.
The sharp weapons pierced through the doll's limbs and nailed the deflated doll firmly to the bloodstained plain.
"Asgard's Doppelganger Magic is not like those clumsy trick spells from the outside world."
"It is very realistic."
Hela appeared to Beckett's front left. Her face was somewhat pale from the exhaustion of her body, but it did nothing to diminish her pride and confidence.
If she was suppressed in close combat, then she would fight as a ranged mage.
That was the freedom of mastering both magic and martial combat.
Seeing that Hela had clearly escaped, The Other, having just finished singing Beckett's praises, instantly abandoned any thought of running to Beckett's side. He quietly remained with the Chitauri army, more than half of which had already been destroyed, and watched to see what happened.
"A boring trick."
Beckett glanced at the bloodstained doll, his eyes filled with disdain.
Before absolute strength, all flashy tricks were nothing but paper tigers.
"How many more times can your body cast this so-called magic?" Hela's terrible physical condition was already obvious to Beckett.
"Enough to last until you fall." Despite her terrible condition, Hela still believed Beckett was in worse shape than she was.
Both of his arms had been pierced by magical arrows, his internal organs had been crushed by the Crystal Wall, and he had just struck the Judgment Holy Sword head-on with his fist. Hela did not believe Beckett could have come through that string of events without a scratch.
"I admire your confidence. The enemies I met before, when they reached this point, all without exception crawled at my feet, wagging their tails and begging me to spare their lives." Beckett narrowed his eyes and walked toward Hela step by step.
At seven years old, he had nearly been stabbed to death, and he had still endured. These injuries now were no more than moderately serious.
For Beckett, as long as he was not dead, the problem was not serious. At worst, he could return to the warship and soak in the Fountain of Life. Every concern would be resolved.
"Really? What a coincidence. On the battlefield, I've killed plenty of arrogant fools like you who thought victory was already in their hands."
Hela raised her hand, and dozens of weapons instantly appeared around her, their points aimed directly at Beckett.
To Hela, her injuries were not a major problem either. If she returned to Asgard and rested for two days, she would recover. Her strength might even increase with Asgard's enhancement.
Fight! Fight! Fight!
Having already sung a hymn for Beckett once, The Other openly stood on Beckett's side. The azure scepter in his hand faintly glowed. Regarding his unawakened clansmen as anything but comrades, The Other used his scepter to control a squad of Chitauri soldiers and prepared to launch a sneak attack.
Suddenly, he felt somewhat... cold?
No, this temperate plain shouldn't possibly—
The Other had just realized something was wrong and was about to warn Beckett when his body was rapidly frozen over. Together with the Chitauri army behind him, he became an ice sculpture beneath the setting sun.
The setting sun on the horizon reflected dazzling rainbow light from the countless ice crystals.
"Hela Odinsdottir, Odin's daughter. If I kill you, I think Laufey will be very pleased."
A large group of entirely blue giants slowly appeared along the sunset-red horizon. After receiving the garrison's distress signal, the Frost Giant reinforcements closest to the garrison had arrived at their destination.
Although they were late and the garrison had already been wiped out, he had spotted a lone, seemingly injured daughter of Odin, Hela. As for the monkey with a tail beside Hela, he did not know him, nor did he need to.
They would kill them both. In any case, they could not be allies.
