Background / History
Zhong Yue was born to the Zhongshan Tribe, a famine-stricken minor tribe with only about one hundred survivors and no Totem God Pillar. He entered Sword Gate at age nine, but spent six years as an outer disciple because his family could not provide pills, tutors, or clan support. He gathered spiritual herbs in the wilderness and refined his own Feather Spirit Pills to cultivate. 1 3 4
While collecting herbs during the early eruption of the Demonic Soul Yin Miasma, Zhong Yue found a serpent-bodied skeleton and a damaged bronze lamp that repelled the miasma. He respectfully buried the skeleton, then discovered that the lamp housed Xin Huo, an ancient Kindling Child. Xin Huo identified Zhong Yue as a diluted descendant of the Fuxi Divine Clan and taught him the Fire Epoch Palace Suihuang Visualization. 1 2 4
The Suihuang Visualization allowed Zhong Yue to achieve Soul Egress almost immediately, ending six years of stagnation. He passed the Azure Sky Hall assessment through a combination of body refinement, combat awareness, and soul egress, becoming an Upper Court disciple alongside Shui Qingyan. 3 6
Appearance
Zhong Yue is a rugged, powerfully built youth whose body bears the marks of years spent surviving in the wilderness and gathering herbs outside Sword Gate. 1 18
- Firm, well-proportioned musculature and a broad chest. 1 18
- Thick eyebrows, large eyes, and a generally rugged rather than refined appearance. 18
- More than a dozen scars, including three deep claw marks on his chest, claw marks on his back, and a beast-bite scar on his left arm. 1 5
- Taller and physically broader than most youths his age. 18
- His soul can assume Suihuang’s dragon-headed, human-bodied, serpent-tailed form; in this state, his Divine Eye manifests on his forehead. 2 46
- Beast God Essence can transform him into a seventeen-foot Dragon Steed with scales, fangs, mane, a dragon-like tail, and tiger stripes. 40
Personality
Zhong Yue is exceptionally diligent and pragmatic. Lacking clan wealth or influential patrons, he compensates through herb gathering, self-made pills, body refinement, and relentless cultivation. He seeks out teachings even when no Qi Refiner will formally accept him, valuing useful knowledge over status or formality. 1 9
He is compassionate despite the harshness of his circumstances. He buried the unknown skeleton that sheltered him from the miasma, rescued Shui Qingyan from a beast tide, saved Yu Feiyan during a fall, and repeatedly protected fellow Upper Court disciples in the Demon Ruins. 4 5 14 21
In combat, Zhong Yue becomes fiercely competitive. Strong opponents excite rather than intimidate him, and he seeks decisive victories to test his cultivation. Despite this aggression, he shows restraint, notably refusing to fully exploit Shui Qinghe after defeating him during the Unrestricted Duel. 27 49
He is also cautious about revealing Xin Huo and the Fire Epoch Palace Suihuang Visualization. This caution led him to decline Elder Pu’s offer of formal discipleship, even though he had long wanted a Qi Refiner as a master. 17
Abilities & Skills
Fire Epoch Palace Suihuang Visualization
An ancient Fuxi cultivation method taught by Xin Huo. Zhong Yue visualizes himself as Suihuang within the Fire Epoch Palace, refining both soul and spirit.
- Enabled Soul Egress after only hours of cultivation. 3
- Produces the Suihuang manifestation, which can suppress and refine hostile Spiritual Power within his Sea of Consciousness. 38
- Allows his soul to manifest a Divine Eye that perceives the hidden complexity of totem patterns. 46
- Must be fueled by enormous quantities of energy; early use consumed his body’s muscles and nearly starved him. 3 7
- Continuous use is necessary to refine Beast God Essence and prevent permanent Dragon Steed transformation. 40 42
Dragon Totem Body Coiling Art
A body-refining visualization method that surrounds Zhong Yue with a Flood Dragon and strengthens his physical body.
- Gives him exceptional physical force, durability, and survival ability against wilderness beasts. 3
- Let him destroy two Turtle Mountain Totem Pillars while under their suppressive force. 8
- Can manifest as Flood Dragon claws, a dragon body around his limbs, or multiple Flood Dragons during combat. 24 25
- Later became integrated with lightning-based cultivation, creating a faster and stronger body-refining method. 17
Thunderclap Sword Art
Sword Gate’s lightning-based combat art, of which Zhong Yue received Elder Pu’s true inheritance by understanding its essence rather than copying its form.
- Forms Thunder Pattern Totems into Sword Qi; attacks can strike at range or kill explosively at close quarters. 9
- Zhong Yue uses lightning trees and thunder-based Sword Qi to destroy enemy totems before targeting their bodies. 12
- Can strengthen his physique when combined with the Flood Dragon Totem. 12 17
- Enables Ride the Thunder Across the Sky and Dragon Travels Ten Thousand Miles, high-speed aerial movement techniques. 21 25
- His lightning tempering refined his soul and Spiritual Power, though it initially shrank his soul by removing impurities. 29 30
Life-and-Death Cultivation
Xin Huo’s extreme training method, in which Zhong Yue repeatedly approaches death to trigger a limit reaction.
- Uses fear, Feather Spirit Pills, and Suihuang visualization to force explosive growth in body, soul, and Spiritual Power. 19 20
- Granted exceptional control of his body and Flood Dragon visualization through weighted cliff climbing. 20 23
- Developed his explosive force to the point that it could injure Shui Qinghe through the River God Body. 27
- Carries a high risk of death or permanent bodily damage if he cannot digest the medicinal power supporting it. 19 20
Beast God Essence and Dragon Steed Form
After obtaining the Beast God Inner Core, Zhong Yue gained access to potent Beast God Essence.
- Transforms him into a Dragon Steed with immense speed, strength, and amplified Spiritual Power. 40 41
- Allowed his Flood Dragon visualization to expand from roughly ten zhang to one hundred zhang. 40
- Let him escape pursuing Shuitu Clan Qi Refiners, break through River God attacks, and run through the air. 41 42
- Risks permanent beastification without constant Suihuang visualization. 40 42
- The remaining essence continually nourishes his Great Freedom Sword Qi. 46
Great Freedom Sword Qi
A profound sword method derived from the Geng Jin Sword Qi pattern and adapted by Xin Huo. Zhong Yue initially refined Beast God Essence into Dragon Steed Sword Qi before adopting the name Great Freedom Sword Qi.
- Does not require Soul Sacrifice, so the destruction of its Sword Qi does not directly shatter Zhong Yue’s soul. 46
- Can regenerate after being cut apart and becomes stronger by absorbing Beast God Essence. 46
- Its Lei Sword Qi combines Thunder, Flood Dragon, and Sword Patterns into twelve dragon-shaped streams of Sword Qi. 49
- A single Lei Sword Qi strike blasted Shui Qinghe from his platform and shattered the visualizations of nearby disciples. 49
Formation Knowledge
Xin Huo guides Zhong Yue through ancient formations that would otherwise be lethal.
- Navigated the Beast God Seal and used its intermediate killing formation to kill a Demonic Race Qi Refiner. 37 38
- Restored the Yin Dragon River and Grass and Trees Become Soldiers formations after locating the buried platform. 40
- His restored formations later activated alongside the Dragon Steed formation and destroyed the Demonic Race forces attempting to breach the Beast God Seal. 43
