Background and History

Before the human tribes settled the Great Wilderness, Sword Gate tradition describes the region as a “demonic realm” inhabited by demons and monsters. Sword Gate’s ancestors fought to establish human territory and confined the local Demonic Race within the Sword Gate Demonic Ruins. 10

The Demonic Race of the ruins eventually rebelled against their confinement. Their tribes secretly conducted sacrifices until Demonic Spirits emerged in the ruins, allowing some members to become Qi Refiners despite the area’s lack of natural spiritual energy. They captured Sword Gate disciples as sacrificial offerings to awaken ancestral spirits and break free. 13 15

The uprising centered on reviving the Heavenly Phenomenon Mother, the common ancestor and god of several Great Wilderness demonic tribes. Her partially awakened spirit was empowered with the flesh and blood of captured disciples and the vital essence of two Sword Gate Elders, but Fang Jiange destroyed the spirit at the altar. 14 16

Beyond the Great Wilderness, the Demonic Race continued to covet the region. After the Beast God Seal was exposed, Xiankong City sent Yan Yunsheng, Xiu Tianchen, and numerous Demonic Race Qi Refiners to claim its treasure. Their attempt to break the seal triggered three restored formations, burying more than a thousand Qi Refiners and severely injuring both island masters. 39 41 43 44

Appearance

The Demonic Race has no fixed appearance. Its members commonly combine humanoid features with those of their original beast forms, while stronger individuals may transform fully into colossal Demonic Beasts. 31 43

• Human-faced Snake — appeared as a young girl beneath miasma, but possessed a long snake neck and a massive serpent head capable of swallowing humans whole. 31
• Bear and Goat Demons — retained bear or sheep heads despite humanoid bodies. 31
• Spider Demons — had giant spider bodies with human torsos on their backs. 13
• Eagle Demons — possessed human torsos, birdlike bodies, wings, talons, and toothed mouths. 13
• Heavenly Elephant Demons — elephant-headed beings with trunks and tusks; a Qi Refiner could manifest as an elephant-headed demon god with four heads and eight arms. 15

Traits, Cultivation, and Combat

Demonic Cultivation and Transformation

Ferocious beasts that cultivate but lack higher intelligence are called Demonic Beasts. Those that progress far enough to assume human form are recognized as the Demonic Race and are described as exceptionally dangerous Qi Refiners. 31

• Some members conceal themselves in human guise to infiltrate or ambush human cultivators. One demon wore Han Qingmo’s skin and imitated him to lure Sword Gate disciples into a trap. 36
• Demonic Race Qi Refiners can return to enlarged beast forms during battle. 43
• Beast God Essence greatly strengthens Demonic Beasts; the Demonic Race considered the Beast God Seal’s treasure valuable enough to risk a large-scale incursion. 33 36 43

Totem and Spirit Arts

Demonic Race Qi Refiners cultivate Spirits and use totem patterns distinct from Sword Gate’s nature-based methods. Their techniques are marked by killing intent, demonic variations, and blood-based enhancement. 16 38

• Qi Refiners at the Demonic Ruins altar manifested Spirits such as Elephant Head Gods, Eagle Head Gods, One-eyed Demon Gods, and Spider Demon Gods. 16
• Their blood-drawn totem patterns could suppress and dismantle formations; patterns found in the Beast God Seal were made with the blood of human virgin boys and girls. 38
• Xiankong City used the blood of powerful Totem Spirits to neutralize the Beast God Seal’s defenses. 43
• The Demonic Race Qi Refiners encountered in the ruins had not yet achieved soul-body unification or human-spirit unity. 16

Physical Weapons and Natural Defenses

Many demonic branches possess natural weapons or bodies that rival forged armaments.

• A Human-faced Snake’s venom corroded low-grade Soul Weapons and destroyed the souls bound within them. 31
• Mature Abyssal Demons consume Mysterious Iron ore, purifying the metal into their bones and scythe-like arms. 11
• Mutated demons may possess refined-gold feathers, metallic exoskeletons, or spider silk that is difficult even for Mysterious Iron scythes to sever. 14
• Mutated Abyssal Demons possess innate totem patterns and bodies whose bones, including their skulls and heart casings, are replaced by pure Mysterious Iron. 11 12

Society and Territories

• Sword Gate Demonic Ruins — A prison and training ground where Sword Gate historically kept local demonic tribes suppressed; the imprisoned races regarded this as being raised like livestock for human disciples’ practice. 10 13
• Beast God Ridge — A Demonic Beast sanctuary within the Great Wilderness. Outside Demonic Race cultivators entered it in search of the Beast God Essence and other sealed treasures. 31 36
• Xiankong City — A major Demonic Race holy land led by three island masters. Yan Yunsheng of Sulphur Island and Xiu Tianchen of Brocade Island were two of its principal powers. 41 44
• Human trade and predation — Some Demonic Race members treated humans as food, while cultivated human Qi Refiners were considered particularly valuable sale goods at the Myriad Races Grand Gathering. 10 31
• Ancestral worship — Demonic tribes sustain and awaken ancestral spirits through sacrifice. Millions of low-level demons gathered around the ruins altar to prostrate themselves before the Heavenly Phenomenon Mother. 13 16
