Background / History
Fang Lingxue was born to Fang Qingmeng, a cleaning lady in the Ji household, and Grandmaster Ji Dingjiang. Though raised with the treatment of a Grandmaster's daughter, she and her mother were disliked by Ji Dingjiang's wife, Yao Yuxi, and his son, Ji Lingyun. Ji Dingjiang kept Lingxue away from martial arts and the Wilderness Walker Company, while increasingly neglecting both mother and daughter. 105 107 201
When Lingxue was fourteen, Fang Qingmeng died after falling from the Ji residence's roof. Ji Lingyun and his friends were implicated in the events surrounding her death; later, Ji Lingyun openly referred to Fang Qingmeng's death with contempt. Ji Dingjiang did not pursue an investigation. Lingxue fled to District 7, the area where her mother had been born, and severed her connection to the Ji family. 105 107 220
In the slums, she met Qin Heng while both were doing odd jobs. Qin Heng helped her with work she struggled to perform, and the two became friends. Ye Jian'an—Ji Dingjiang's confidant, whom Lingxue calls Uncle Ye—later arranged stable employment for her at Frost Snow City after she refused direct financial assistance. 107
Despite earning a comparatively high slum-district salary of 900 yuan per month, Lingxue lived frugally and used much of her income to support Qin Heng's household. She urged him to enroll in a martial hall, giving him the opportunity to pursue the Martial Warrior path. 1 9
Lingxue concealed her Ji-family history because she wanted an ordinary, warm life and feared that revealing her blood feud would push Qin Heng toward a dangerous confrontation with the Ji family. After Qin Heng learned the truth, she explained that her friendship and love had never been motivated by his potential or status. 105 106
