Background / History
Hongyun was originally the first cloud of the Great Desolation, born from the first breath Pangu exhaled after opening heaven and earth. Although his origin was exceptional, his former self lived leisurely and did not cultivate diligently, earning a reputation as an easy target among the Great Desolation’s powers. 1 19
After a soul transmigration, Hongyun exposed the secret of the Purple Heaven Palace cushions and bound the Blackening System. The System rewards him for abandoning his benevolent façade, deceiving others, and causing disorder; Hongyun embraced this role by declaring himself the “Pit Emperor.” 1
His cultivation path changed after obtaining the Great Dao Cushion. Its hundredfold cultivation benefit enabled his rapid rise, while Pangu Essence Blood and the Netherworld Blood Rivers gave him an extraordinarily powerful Pangu-derived body. 1 5 6
Personality
Hongyun is calculating, opportunistic, and willing to use deception against anyone he considers a threat or a source of benefit. He repeatedly turns rivals’ greed against them, including Jieyin and Zhunti’s pursuit of the gourds, Minghe’s obsession with the Netherworld Blood Sea, and Kunpeng’s desire for Primordial Violet Qi. 12 25 38
Despite his ruthless schemes, he is cautious about becoming entangled in major tribulations. He avoids directly joining the Witch–Demon conflict, declines Eastern Prince Gong’s recruitment into the Immortal Court, and refuses to kill Dijun and Taiyi when their deaths could tie him to the Witch–Demon Tribulation. 2 16 42
He shows selective responsibility toward those who recognize his authority. He protects the Human Race with the Innate Five Elements Banners, teaches promising Innate Humans, and leaves them a sanctuary at Shouyang Mountain rather than guarding them indefinitely. 46 50
