Chapter 19: Morning Rage
Shen Gui nodded with deep conviction and asked back, "Fellow Daoist Qing Luan, do I really look like a bad person?"
Qing Luan shook her head. "That's not it. It's just that you were vague before, and since it concerns the Empress, I had to ask clearly."
She paused, then said, "In that case, I think I understand your intentions now. If you still wish to seek refuge with Great Sage Fuxi, I can indeed act as your introducer, consider it compensation for my earlier misunderstanding."
Hearing this, Shen Gui's face lit up with joy. "Then I am indebted to you, Fellow Daoist."
"It's nothing. But I am tasked by the Empress to protect this city for a hundred years, and there are still a few years left on that term. Would you be willing to wait?"
Shen Gui nodded. "A few years is no trouble. I've been traveling for some time and have gained some insights, so I can take this opportunity to go into seclusion and sort things out."
"That works well. There are six years left until the century is up. Come find me here then."
"Then I won't disturb your cultivation any longer."
Leaving Qingluan City, Shen Gui smacked his lips. This time, misfortune had truly turned into fortune.
If he could get under Fuxi's command, his chances to learn about Nuwa would undoubtedly increase, which would help him find a way to save the Mysterious Black Tortoise of the Northern Darkness's incarnation from its death tribulation.
Even though he had already taken form using the Mysterious Yellow Qi, as long as there was an opportunity, he still had to rescue the Mysterious Black Tortoise's original body.
Mulling over these scattered thoughts, Shen Gui found a small mountain near Qingluan City with decent spiritual energy, carved out a cave dwelling, and settled in.
According to Qing Luan, they would have to wait six more years before heading to Heavenly Demon City. He needed to use this time to organize his thoughts.
Seeking refuge in Heavenly Demon City and getting close to Nuwa was only the first step. What to do next would depend on how things played out.
As he imagined various future scenarios, Shen Gui gradually sank into slumber.
For him, sleeping was cultivation.
However, Shen Gui had planned to sleep for six years straight and then go find Qing Luan. But the world always had surprises. This time, he hadn't even been asleep for a month before he was woken by commotion from outside.
Rumbling booms came from beyond, and Shen Gui could even feel the mountain he was in shaking along with them.
This made him extremely displeased.
Turtle life was already hard enough. Now even sleeping was interrupted. Did people really think a honest fellow had no temper?
So, disturbed from his rest, Shen Gui immediately stopped his seclusion and stormed out, full of pent-up anger.
By the time he emerged, the rumbling had already stopped.
Shen Gui swept his divine sense around and quickly found the culprit.
To the south of the small mountain, a burly man was dragging a giant beast southward.
The beast was dozens of zhang tall, with pitch-black fur. At first glance, it looked like a giant bear, but it had tiger's claws and a ferocious appearance.
However, the beast was already thoroughly dead.
The burly man was simply pulling one of its claws, dragging the corpse along.
Seeing the man and the beast, Shen Gui roughly understood what had happened—the noise earlier was most likely from this man hunting the beast.
With that figured out and a dose of Morning Rage, Shen Gui immediately chased after him. "You there, the man! Stop!"
Hearing Shen Gui's voice, the burly man dragging the beast slowed his pace and turned around in confusion. "Who are you?"
A flash of yellow light, and Shen Gui appeared before the man.
Looking at the man in front of him, Shen Gui demanded directly, "You, the man, I ask you—was it you hunting that big fellow on that mountain and making all that noise?"
The man looked Shen Gui up and down. "It was me. So what?"
"So what?" Seeing the man's puzzled expression, Shen Gui grew even angrier. "Don't you know that making such a racket disturbs people's cultivation?"
Hearing this, the man curled his lip. "Even if I did know, so what? By your logic, if this big fellow ran that way, I wasn't supposed to chase it?"
"Then couldn't you have made less noise?"
Shen Gui felt a headache coming on.
Although the beast was dead as dead could be, Shen Gui could tell that at most, it had only been a True Immortal in life.
Yet the man before him had a deep, profound aura. Shen Gui estimated he had at least stepped into the Golden Immortal realm. A Golden Immortal hunting a True Immortal demonic beast—did he really need to make such a ruckus?
But hearing this, the man's face was full of impatience. "Why are you so fussy? What business is it of yours how much noise I make hunting a demonic beast? Get out of my way, or I'll beat you up, believe me?"
Hearing this, Shen Gui felt his Morning Rage completely detonate.
