Background & History

Shang Yang developed her cultivation without a master or dependable guidance from the time she gained sentience. Despite this, she reached an advanced realm through her own talent, accumulation, and effort. 101

As the ruler of Qingmang Mountain, she sheltered the Qingniao Clan when the Demon Country's Huoyun Toad pursued and massacred them. Qing Feng, the Qingniao chief, died protecting his people during their retreat. Shang Yang regarded him as a kindred spirit because of his appreciation for the beauty of Qingmang Palace, and later avenged him. 44 49

After advancing to the early Grand Unity stage, Shang Yang attacked Huoyun City alone. She drowned the city beneath rain imbued with her Water Law, killed Huoyun, and annihilated most of the city's million-strong demon army before leaving the few survivors to spread word of the destruction. 45 46

She later called demon kings to Qingmang Mountain to form a united front against the Demon Country. The resulting Demon Alliance was undermined by internal self-interest and ultimately disbanded. 53 72 78

With Qingmang Mountain no longer secure, Shang Yang chose to seek refuge under Nuwa. Only a few thousand of her tens of thousands of followers chose to accompany her; many of the Qingniao Clan remained loyal out of gratitude for her protection. 78 79

Nuwa's sermon gave Shang Yang the guidance she had lacked throughout her cultivation. The experience greatly deepened her respect for Nuwa and enabled her breakthrough. 100 101
