Background / History
Loina was originally named Aria and was subjected to experiments by her father, Arnold, from before she was five years old. The experiments transformed her into a human–monster hybrid and tied her existence to the Mother Nest of All Things. After Lu Minghao named her Loina, he made her his second subordinate and subtly changed her memories through the Power of Gluttony. 96 126
As the Mother Nest’s master, Loina participated in the destruction of the Kingdom of Ister’s royal capital. She treated Arnold’s despair with unsettling amusement, then absorbed her sister Acely and Islan into the Mother Nest while presenting the act as “helping” their father. 98
Lu Minghao later sent Loina to the Jura Great Forest. Her initial mission was to conceal the Mother Nest, have its offspring hunt and observe the Pigmen, infiltrate Rimuru’s growing monster faction, and report through the clone Lu Minghao gave her. 123 She gained Rimuru’s trust by presenting herself as a lonely, experimented-on child who only wanted friends. 125 126
Loina became genuinely attached to Tempest’s residents despite her hidden assignment. Rimuru, Shuna, Benimaru, Kaijin, Gobta, and others treated her as a younger sister, while she came to see them as beloved friends and family. 142 151 After receiving Lu Minghao’s blessing, she evolved into a Demon Lord Species and became one of Rimuru’s faction’s strongest members. 143 178
During her encounter with Toreni, Loina fought to delay the Tree Elf long enough for a captured offspring of the Mother Nest to recover and escape. She concealed this purpose, claiming that she had merely wanted to “play.” 156 The Mother Nest subsequently produced one hundred thousand Orc offspring. 156
After Lu Minghao returned to the Slime World, Loina reunited with him and complained about being bored by Tempest’s meetings. She later accompanied Lu Minghao and Sally to the Real World, where she developed an interest in manga and anime. 310 321 During the apocalypse there, she manipulated survivor groups with false safe zones and controlled Sin Monsters for amusement until Sally retrieved her. 324 325
Appearance
Loina normally appears as a small blonde girl with a porcelain-doll-like face, large eyes, and a youthful build. Her harmless appearance contrasts sharply with her monstrous physiology and combat forms. 125 154
- Blonde hair and a small, childlike human appearance. 125 154
- Blood-red dragon wings capable of flight. 153 154
- Can transform her hands and arms into dragon claws, spiked hammers, whips, tentacles, and maw-like appendages. 154 155
- Appears above or fused with the colossal, flesh-based Mother Nest of All Things when commanding it. 98 123
- Has also been described with dragon horns and sapphire-blue eyes. 195
Personality
Loina is emotionally and mentally childlike in ordinary life. She is curious, affectionate, easily excited by food and new experiences, and strongly fears abandonment by Lu Minghao. She openly clings to him, calls him “Master,” and regards Sally as an older sister. 123 126 195
Her innocence coexists with a cold, bloodthirsty side as the Lord of Flesh. She can be protective of the Mother Nest’s offspring, ruthless toward enemies, and delighted by frightening or deceiving others. 142 154 156 She frequently uses her cute appearance, tears, and apparent naivety to lower others’ guard before attacking. 125 155
Loina has a simplistic understanding of stories and heroism shaped by manga and anime. In the Real World, she expected humans to act like comic protagonists and lost interest in them when they broke under fear rather than becoming heroic. 321 325
