Momonga was the guild master of Ainz Ooal Gown in the MMORPG YGGDRASIL. The guild accepted only heteromorphic-race players who were working adults in real life. As the game's shutdown approached, he remained in the Great Tomb of Nazarick to remember the guild and its absent members, carrying the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown. 234

After crossing into another world with Nazarick, he adopted the name Ainz Ooal Gown in the hope that former guildmates who had also arrived would recognize it. He regarded Nazarick, its NPCs, and the guild's accumulated treasures as irreplaceable memories of his companions. 264 272
