The reason we called it independent of the Over-Time Stream was that nothing happening here occurred before or after anything else. It existed in a time completely independent of the Over-Time Stream.
To give a simple example, could we say that there was any causal relationship on the timeline between Ultraman Tiga and Kung Fu Panda?
Of course not.
But in truth, the history of the Multiversal Convergence had profoundly affected the Over-Time Stream.
The Multiversal Convergence had essentially been initiated by the Over-Time Stream itself, forcibly dragging a Superman from the past timeline—P Superman—to fill the massive bug left by the death of Prime Universe Superman, N Superman.
According to the original, normal progression of events, P Superman would accidentally fall into the Multiversal Convergence from a point in time before the beginning of the New 52. After experiencing a series of chaotic battles, he would be teleported by Brainiac to the Infinite Earths Crisis, where he would once again stop Anti-Monitor from attempting to rewrite the ending of the Infinite Earths Crisis. Thus, he would repair the DC Multiverse and prevent its collapse.
Immediately afterward, he would be teleported to the beginning of the New 52, where he would remain in seclusion...
Until Prime Universe Superman, N Superman, died.
After being injured by kryptonite multiple times, infected with the Doomsday Virus, and finally developing Kryptonian cancer, he had heroically sacrificed himself. Only after these events did P Superman once again become the Superman of the Prime Universe, after which he was captured alive by World Forger and forced to become the center of the Baby Multiverse.
But now...
