Background

Zhu Shi was born into the Zhu family, a declining lineage of Demon Hunters that once produced a Great Wuchang. Though the family intended to withdraw from the Demon Hunter world, unresolved obligations required a successor to continue its work. Her brother Zhu Changan was initially selected, but an accident made Zhu Shi the heir instead; Changan lost much of his childhood memory and was kept unaware of the family’s supernatural affairs. 20 21

As the selected heir, Zhu Shi’s childhood name, Zhu Jiuxing, was changed to Zhu Shi in accordance with her family’s numerical naming tradition. She began using the new name after entering junior high school. 50

She initially viewed Zhuang Cheng as a dangerous eccentric whose obsession with ghost stories could endanger Changan. After learning that Zhuang had rescued Changan from a beating, helped force him to confront his past behavior, and remained rational despite his reputation, she gradually became grateful to and protective of him. 20 21

By the time she enrolled at Xianshui University as a freshman, Zhu Shi had already been secretly monitoring Zhuang Cheng’s activities through online contact while concealing her work as a Demon Hunter. 8 21

In ordinary life, Zhu Shi presents herself as a delicate, gentle university student, with an impression compared to clear streams, misty lakes, and watercolor paintings. In the field, the same face carries a markedly more direct and gallant presence. 8 26

Personality

Zhu Shi consciously performs a “normal” and somewhat helpless feminine persona in daily life, modeled after stereotypes she absorbed from online novels. She admits that her higher-pitched, affected manner of speaking became ingrained over time. 21

As a Demon Hunter, she is cautious, disciplined, and strongly protective of civilians. She refuses to casually hand dangerous incidents to others, even when an abnormality falls outside her specialty, because she feels responsible for threats within her jurisdiction. 20 42
