Background / History
Helian Feng was appointed by the Ascending Dragon Pavilion to guide Gu Yang after Gu Yang received Jia-grade treatment on Canglong Island. Though Gu Yang addressed him as “Master Helian,” their initial arrangement was not a formal master-disciple relationship. Helian Feng took the role because he believed Gu Yang could surpass Canglan, despite others doubting that possibility. 73
Having specialized in Fish Dragon Transformation and Azure Dragon Force during his own Body Realm cultivation, Helian Feng directed Gu Yang to focus on those two techniques. He also assigned reading on cultivation and the Vast Continent, testing Gu Yang's understanding and insisting that, as a human genius, Gu Yang must stand with humanity rather than remain neutral toward the races' conflicts. 73 75 78
His relationship with Gu Yang gradually became paternal. He worried over Gu Yang's safety in Yinfeng Cave, prepared Bone Forging resources for him before Gu Yang acquired Yinfeng Ice Marrow, and later intervened personally when Gu Yang faced pressure from the Ji, Li, and Liu families. Although he stresses self-reliance, he also introduced Gu Yang to the Ascending Dragon Pavilion's Great Elder to obtain a Myriad Life Flower. 120 122 152 153
Appearance
Helian Feng is a middle-aged man who initially appears in black martial attire. He carries himself with a cold, stern demeanor and often stands with his hands behind his back. 73
- Middle-aged appearance. 73
- Wears black martial clothing during his first meeting with Gu Yang. 73
- Later fights with a longsword and an imposing elder's presence. 208 355
- His Primordial Spirit manifests as golden radiance; his Dharma Image takes the form of a majestic griffin. 208 362
Personality
Helian Feng is demanding and direct as an instructor. He expects Gu Yang to develop a Martial Dao Will rather than rely solely on his unusual advantages, and he insists that rapid breakthroughs must not come at the cost of an unstable foundation. 76 116
He is firmly aligned with humanity in the conflict against alien races. His warnings about the Three Border Provinces are blunt and severe, reflecting his belief that the struggle will end only when one side is destroyed. 75 83
Despite his sternness, Helian Feng is deeply protective of Gu Yang. His concern over Yinfeng Cave, swift response to Gu Yang's family troubles, and private sense of parental warmth toward Gu Yang show an affectionate side he does not openly emphasize. 120 122 152
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship and Magic Power
Helian Feng is an elite swordsman whose techniques combine precision, speed, and overwhelming Magic Power.
- Uses wind-and-thunder sword qi, including the technique “Wind and thunder unite, sword breaks the nine heavens!” against a Black Demon Race Elder. 208
- Forms radiant swords from Magic Power and employs large-scale formations that hinder opponents and convert gathered power into attacks. 354
- Condenses a transparent longsword from his Magic Power during his battle against the Multi-horn Race Dharma Image expert. 355
- Creates a massive sword formation whose sword intent embodies his lifelong Sword Dao cultivation, overwhelming an enemy's final frost attack. 355
- His swordsmanship is precise enough to repeatedly exploit a Dharma Image expert's weaknesses before delivering a fatal strike through the heart. 355
Primordial Spirit
Helian Feng can manifest and expend his Primordial Spirit in life-or-death combat.
- His Primordial Spirit emerges as golden light resembling a miniature sun. 208
- He can burn Primordial Spirit power to empower a decisive sword attack, though doing so severely drains him. 208
- During the battle against Wind Cloud City's City Lord, his Primordial Spirit leaves his body and becomes a massive sword shadow to break the City Lord's defensive barrier. 363 364
- Leaving the body carries extreme risk; Gu Yang recognizes that a failure could cause Helian Feng's spirit to scatter. 363
Griffin Dharma Image
Helian Feng possesses a griffin-shaped Dharma Image that enhances his sword combat.
- The Dharma Image manifests as a lion-headed, eagle-winged griffin. 362
- Its presence sharpens and strengthens his swordplay, allowing his attacks to carry the griffin's force. 362
- He can merge the griffin's golden radiance back into his body to further intensify his swordsmanship. 363
Movement Technique
Helian Feng possesses extraordinary speed and evasive ability.
- During a spar with Gu Yang, he moved quickly enough to create numerous simultaneous afterimages around the Training Ground. 117
- The afterimages were not illusions; each represented Helian Feng's position at a different instant of high-speed movement. 117
- Even Gu Yang's Soul Secret Power could not distinguish Helian Feng's true position during this display. 117
Command and Tactical Planning
Helian Feng is an experienced battlefield leader who combines direct combat with deception and coordinated operations.
- He helped Gu Yang divide their force during the Ghost Gorge counter-encirclement, creating false tracks and attacking pursuing forces from behind. 359
- He independently gathered intelligence on the Night Walker in Wind Cloud City and prepared a jade slip containing his findings. 360 361
- He participated in the covert infiltration and decapitation operation against Wind Cloud City's City Lord. 358 362
- During the escape from Wind Cloud City, he repeatedly protected the wounded team, coordinated with Gu Yang against Night Walker, and supported Gu Yang's decision to change routes toward the Multi-horn Race border. 365 368

Trivia
- Helian Feng never married or had children; his bond with Gu Yang gives him a warmth he compares to being with his own child. 122
- He once purchased the same soul-perception-enhancing training facility used by Gu Yang when he was younger, but found its effects on himself disappointingly weak. 82
- He is several centuries old, making the much younger Helian Qi seem young enough for him to call “Xiao Qi.” 152
