Fox Family upbringing

Nancy was born to Count Monteril and the Countess of the Fox Family. Her mother died giving birth to her after choosing Nancy's survival over her own; Monteril blamed Nancy for the loss and deliberately kept his distance. Neglected by her father, she was also mistreated and shortchanged by household servants. 31

Her childhood isolation shaped an unruly, confrontational temperament. At twelve, she retaliated against her treatment by breaking several maids' legs and smashing a young noble's nose with a wine glass. After becoming a mage at fifteen, her fiery temper and refusal to tolerate slights earned her the name Fiery Rose of the Fox Family. 31

At seventeen, Nancy was sent to Shining Gold Town at her father's request to interact with Hyde Slate. Instead, she confronted Raven Griffith over Karl's death; Raven publicly disciplined her and forced an apology, beginning their hostile relationship. 31

Rivalry with Raven Griffith

Nancy initially treated Raven as an enemy and repeatedly sought ways to embarrass or undermine him. She had Jenny monitor him, planned to steal the recipes for Angel's Tear, and attempted to use her status and wealth to pressure him. 33 49

Determined to join Raven's Bloody Highlands expedition, Nancy blackmailed Eric for military information by threatening his family and offering assistance for his son. She then compelled Raven to bring her by offering the Second-tier spell scroll Ember Incineration. 64 65

When Bent warned of an impending attack by Blood Eye Mongar and Pirate General Joshua, Nancy ordered a three-tier defense line, shelters, expanded reconnaissance, and militia training despite resistance from Eagle Territory's officials. 357

She refused noble demands to recall Raven from his campaign, arguing that Eagle City had to withstand the siege without disrupting his war effort. She later led Griffith forces from the city to support Viscount John, confronting Blood Eye personally. 360 362

Nancy defeated Blood Eye with Phoenix Rebirth, recovered the Ring of Blood and Curse from him, and had Denise deliver it to Raven. The spell left her without Magic Power and severely weakened. 363 Her condition deteriorated over the following months; after awakening briefly, she asked Raven whether he had ever loved her and then died. 398
