Background / History

Huang Yan was one of five Trial Takers gathered at the Bronze Gate to await the final individual acknowledged by Jin: Yang Yu. He introduced Zhi Xing, Xuan Jiu, Gu Shan, and Bai E to Yang Yu, then explained that the group had been waiting for the last recognized participant. 462

During the battle against the Fifth Step Bones Guard, Huang Yan and the other Fourth Step experts witnessed Yang Yu wound an opponent far beyond his realm. He later entered the Abyss as a “Temporary Abyss Outsourced Employee,” where the system subjected him to exploitative reward deductions and monitoring. 465 466

After gaining a Path-Severing Fragment, Huang Yan broke into the Fifth Step. His confidence immediately led him to test Yang Yu’s authority inside the Abyss, only for the system to classify his power output as an illegal attempt at rule modification and lock his energy channels. 473

At No. 3 Mining Zone, Huang Yan confronted the Giant Eye and the Triacontakaihexagon. The enemy’s Blank Symbol erased his name and presence from the Player Channel, but he was later restored; the experience left him genuinely terrified of Name-Holding methods. 477 479

Yang Yu later used mass worship, rewards, and Abyss permissions to establish Huang Yan as the Realm-Suppressing Divine Beast. The resulting recognition accumulated enough authority for Huang Yan to enter the Sixth Step, but also transformed him into a Big Black Fish and bound him to Jin’s Reception Register, forcing him to recruit qualified Trial Takers. 493 494

Huang Yan subsequently served as the public face of Jin’s Trial system, registering candidates such as Li Cangxu and announcing trials against Qiong’s peak Sixth Step Vessels. Huang Yan is outspoken, irreverent, and prone to cursing when confronted with the Abyss System’s fees, contracts, and humiliating job titles. His initial response to being classified as a temporary outsourced employee was to call the system a scam. 465

Despite his flippant manner, he is an experienced survivor of Hongmeng who recognizes threats quickly and offers serious warnings when necessary. He cautioned others not to force comprehension of Jin’s inheritance, and he rushed to intervene when Zhi Xing endangered her foundation during her breakthrough. 467 469

He is competitive and easily carried away by newfound strength, repeatedly testing Yang Yu’s authority after reaching the Fifth Step.
