Background / History
Vilan's historical rise began with exceptional intuition and the discovery of the Time Law, a law overlooked by the Five Plank Road Masters. Backed by a powerful material-realm faction, he advanced rapidly and approached the status of a Plank Road Master through the Sixth Plank Road 320.
His path was destroyed shortly before ascension. Accounts state that six of his seven disciples were spies planted by the Five Plank Road Masters, while the status of the seventh remains uncertain. The Sixth Plank Road was broken, forcing Vilan into existence as an Ancient One within the Spirit World rather than allowing him to complete his intended ascension 311 320.
Another inherited account presents a darker version of his history: Vilan allegedly arranged the murder of a disciple's family to secure the disciple's loyalty and intended to sacrifice seven disciples during his final enlightenment ceremony. The account portrays the disciples' betrayal as retaliation for these acts 324.
In the present era, Vilan ruled Lubei County as an Archmage with a favorable public reputation. His ancestral territory was orderly and safe enough to be known for unlocked doors and unclaimed lost property, despite the scale of his hidden schemes and affiliations 376.
Appearance
Vilan's appearance changes across his projections, historical bodies, and empowered forms. His True Dragon blood gives him distinctive vertical pupils; during his confrontation with Roger, divine power restored his graying, middle-aged appearance into that of a young man 18 379.
- Rare vertical pupils inherited from his True Dragon blood 18.
- Often manifests through cold, disembodied projections or a giant vertical pupil 185 367.
- Appeared as a middle-aged man with slightly gray beard and hair before being rejuvenated into a youth by divine power 379.
- Can become a roughly 300-meter Arcane Giant through Immortal Palace Arcane Armor 368.
Personality
Vilan is calculating, patient, and intensely confident in his own planning. The Sea Serpent Queen described his strategy for controlling the Chaotic Plane as so meticulous that it must have taken at least three centuries to prepare 374. He rarely rushes into direct combat when a city, organization, artifact, or historical body can bear the risk for him.
He maintains a composed and mocking manner even when challenged. Roger's deliberate refusal to acknowledge him provoked visible anger, but Vilan regained his composure within seconds rather than acting impulsively 367. His projections inherit a particular dislike of being interrupted, a weakness Roger exploited to force one into an emotional outburst 185.
His ambition extends beyond political control or ordinary ascension. He sought to reshape planetary orbit, fuse planes, and become a Celestial God, treating the survival of Mystra and Quinan as expendable variables in a larger experiment 368 374.
Abilities & Skills
Arcane and Evil Curse Mastery
Vilan is a high-level spellcaster whose strength is not limited to ordinary mage combat. He possesses an exceptionally large number of feats, profound Evil Curse attainments, and enough magical refinement to overwhelm even high-level, dual-class opponents 18 170 351.
- Uses layered spell enhancements, metamagic, barriers, debuffs, and magical restrictions rather than relying solely on direct attacks 368.
- Holds the titles Dominator and Archmage and is identified as an Evil Curse Master 351 374.
- His defeated body yielded the feats Empowering Hand and Greater Prophecy 376.
- Can use Divine Art: High-Level Hypnosis through a projection; Roger resisted the attempt 371.
Time Law and Historical Bodies
Vilan's discovery of the Time Law enabled his progression toward Ancient One status and allowed him to maintain multiple forms across history and the present world 311 320.
- Possesses Historical Bodies, a Present World Body, and projections that can act independently 367 374.
- Concealed his Present World Body so effectively that Roger's tracking wolves could not locate it in the Fallen Plane, Mystra, Quinan, or Evil Shadow City 367.
- His death yielded 0.06 Time Authority Rank to Roger 376.
- Used historical bodies as decoys and combat support; ten were deployed against Roger in the Planet Dream Realm 378 379.
Telepathy and Projection
Vilan can communicate over vast distances and observe events through projections and magical constructs 367.
- Uses high-level Telepathy to address enemies outside Evil Shadow City 366 367.
- Projects a face or vertical pupil capable of influencing events without necessarily possessing direct killing power 185.
- Can create projections from his Present World Body and employ them for hypnosis or psychological pressure 371.
Arcane Giant Form
Vilan can equip Immortal Palace Arcane Armor and become an Arcane Giant with both overwhelming magical enhancement and formidable melee power 368.

- Gains a body at least 300 meters tall, comparable in scale to a Cyclops 368.

Plane and Celestial Manipulation
Vilan's ultimate project involved manipulating planes and stellar phenomena to create a new world under his control 368 379.
- Planned to deploy a Starry Sky Prism atop the Fallen Plane with Star Cruisers, redirecting a meteor shower toward the Chaotic Plane 368.
- Controlled the Chaotic Plane's Plane Heart and separated the Prime Material Plane from the Planet Dream Realm 374 379.
- Intended to accelerate planetary gestation, produce the First Spirit, and ascend as a Celestial God 368 374.
- Could bring gods and powerful beings into Genesis Events through his control of the evolving plane 374.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Invitation to Roger
Vilan first enters the narrative through a gilded invitation for Roger to visit his potion garden at the Star Dome Platform. The letter reveals that the feared Velenus from Roger's past-life memories is the same person as Mage Lord Vilan 17.
Red-Robed Mage Crisis
Vilan's projection appears in Gem City and confirms his influence over the Red-Robed Mages. Roger retreats rather than risk contact, realizing that Vilan commands multiple Transcendent mage organizations and remains far beyond his current ability to confront 170. Vilan's Projection later self-destructs after the Blood Drop Town conflict, completing one of Roger's advancement objectives 187.
Ancient One Legacy
Roger discovers that Vilan's identity extends into the Spirit World's distant history under the name Weilun. The Ancient One's broken Time Stairway, ruined Sixth Plank Road, remnant soul, and disputed disciple history reveal the scale of Vilan's earlier failure and transformation 314 318 323.
Evil Shadow City and the Fallen Plane
Vilan arrives with Evil Shadow City, using its defenses, Tower Spirits, Black Blood Army, and Ancient Golden Dragon's Vertical Pupil to prepare for the meteor shower. Roger infiltrates the city by possessing Tower Spirit Argus, but cannot locate Vilan's Present World Body and waits for his larger scheme to expose a weakness 367 368.
Star Lord Scheme and Defeat
Vilan reveals his intention to redirect the meteor shower, fuse the Chaotic Plane, and become a Celestial God. He defeats opposing Star Lord candidates with his Arcane Giant form and later uses the Plane Heart to isolate Roger in the Planet Dream Realm 368 379.
Roger eventually kills Vilan's Present World Body, gains Vilan's feats and Time Authority, then travels to Candlelight Castle in Lubei County to destroy Vilan's last Historical Body. Vilan's final attempt to tell his story is cut short when Roger decapitates him 376.
