Background

Mu Shaoan initially appears in World 404 with missing core memories. He remembers awakening after a car accident and considers himself an orphan, though Zhang Yang identifies him as his younger cousin and names Mu Shaojun, Mu Jianguo, and Li Guixia as his family. Mu Shaoan recognizes Zhang Yang only as someone from recurring dreams and treats his warnings with suspicion. By then, he is already a formidable fighter with a beard, a saber, and a fierce killing aura. 348

At a later reunion, Mu Shaoan reveals that Mu Shaojun died of old age at 120. He admits that he has concealed his awareness behind a deliberately reckless “Barbarian” persona, knows of the Remnant Soul of Destiny, and suspects that Cynthia may also be a pawn of destiny. 445

Zhang Yang later traces the life of the independent Heavenly Sword Clan disciple Qiao Mu and finds evidence suggesting that Qiao Mu is Mu Shaoan’s reincarnation or the continuation of his residual soul. Qiao Mu’s exceptional cultivation, unexplained origins, and a snow-white rib bone formerly connected to Mu Shaoan lead Zhang Yang to conclude that Mu Shaoan reached the Fourth Sequence and died there. 540

Appearance

Mu Shaoan is first described as a bearded man carrying a saber. His combat presence is marked by confusion, alertness, and a fierce murderous aura. 348

  • His perfect mastery of the Ancient Destiny Chessboard leaves him grotesquely altered, including a damaged eye and distorted proportions. 560
  • While helping engrave the Plague God Seal, he rapidly regresses into a child, becomes a white rib bone, and then reconstructs himself as a middle-aged man with gray at his temples. 580
  • After using the Plague God Seal to remove the Third Generation Insecticide’s curse, he regains his true form. 580

Personality

Mu Shaoan is proud, audacious, and intensely resistant to being treated as a subordinate or tool. Zhang Yang characterizes him as the kind of person who would rather starve than accept something simply handed to him. 601 He repeatedly pursues dangerous opportunities, whether confronting the Third Generation Insecticide, mastering destiny, or personally leading investigations into enemy territory. 556 580 661

Despite his reckless image, he is analytical and highly perceptive. He identifies the damage caused by Zhang Yang’s fragmented True Spirit, understands the risks of Ancient Law, recognizes the strategic implications of enemy actions, and repeatedly exposes flaws in Zhang Yang’s plans. 554 555 660

His relationship with Zhang Yang combines family loyalty, distrust, competition, and mutual exploitation. He frequently mocks Zhang Yang as cowardly or shameless, but he also protects Zhang Yang’s world, assists with its defenses, and offers to draw enemy aggression away from it. 580 626 674

Abilities & Skills

Ancient Law of Destiny

Mu Shaoan controls destiny-related powers through the Ancient Destiny Chessboard, the Destiny Chain, and later the Ring.

  • Renames and develops the Death Chain into the Destiny Chain. 556
  • Uses the Ancient Destiny Chessboard’s white and black pieces for divination; every game requires sacrifices that determine how many pieces can be obtained. 556 557
  • Uses Fate Chess to detect approaching crises and identify threats to the Sword Immortal World. 618
  • Mastering the chessboard grants insight into heavenly secrets but inflicts severe physical backlash. 560
  • His Ring, the Ancient Law of Destiny, can interfere with an opponent’s body in ways that are difficult to locate or expel. 657 658

Destiny Chain

The Destiny Chain is Mu Shaoan’s defining method for locking down high-mobility opponents.

  • A Demonic Bladesman can attach a void Destiny Chain with each successful strike. 604
  • After ten chains are stacked, the user can initiate a Heaven and Earth Charge across any distance with guaranteed accuracy. 604
  • Chess Sword Immortals can also place Destiny Chains on allied Demonic Bladesmen, allowing the team to sustain pursuit. 604

True Spirit Blunting

Mu Shaoan possesses extensive knowledge of blunted True Spirit Particles, which he teaches to Zhang Yang as a cure for the latter’s dangerous habit of splitting his True Spirit.

  • He had previously contained roughly 300,000 blunted True Spirit Particles. 556
  • His method can sever a soul’s innate capacity to cast certain divine powers, trading versatility for stability. 555
  • His core possessions remain intact through death and bodily reconstruction, including his own blunted True Spirit Particles and other unique inheritances. 643

Soul Force Field Micro-Control

Mu Shaoan’s Soul Force Field control is considered extraordinary even by Zhang Yang.

  • Zhang Yang ranks him above other experts in Soul Force Field micro-manipulation. 461
  • His control is compared to the detail and scale of Along the River During the Qingming Festival. 461

Divine Seals and Anti-Curse Methods

Mu Shaoan is an accomplished Divine Seal user and an architect of the Sword Immortal World’s anti-curse defenses.

  • Engraves dozens of Divine Seal imprints in rapid succession while helping complete the Plague God Seal. 580
  • Gains control of the Plague God Seal, rendering the Third Generation Insecticide’s curse nearly ineffective against him. 580
  • Can exploit curses directed at him: a worm created through his connection to the Third Generation Insecticide counter-curses attackers and may steal fragments of their intelligence. 626
  • Uses his Fate Chess methods to refine Ancient Law-related power. 657

Tactical Command

Mu Shaoan is an exceptional battlefield commander, especially in large, mobile formations.

  • Zhang Yang transfers full command authority to him during the battle against Ancient God Li Meng. 596
  • Issues 378 tactical orders immediately after taking command. 596
  • Uses Sword Dao Law 4.0 and thirty-six Law Immortal Swords to establish concealed, real-time command across a battlefield roughly 1.5 million kilometers wide. 596
  • Divides Sword Immortals into highly mobile combat clusters to disrupt Li Meng’s attacks and prevent her retreat. 596
  • His command is credited as crucial to preventing Li Meng from breaking through and devastating the Sword Immortal World. 598

Four Derived Professions

As a sub-plane ruler, Mu Shaoan creates four professions to address the Sword Immortals’ weaknesses. Their systems emphasize incantations, seals, talismans, runes, ghosts, chess, fate, and souls. 604

  • Curse Sword Immortal — support, enhancement, scouting, and curse dispelling. 604
  • Ghostly Sword Immortal — offensive and support combatant. 604
  • Chess Sword Immortal — divination, deduction, and tactical command. 604
  • Demonic Bladesman — frontline role designed to provide offense, defense, mobility, and aggro control. 604

Equipment / Items

  • Ancient Destiny Chessboard — a black-and-white chessboard whose pieces represent positive and negative destiny and require sacrifices to obtain. 556
  • Destiny Chain — evolved from the Death Chain and used for pursuit, locking targets, and destiny-based combat. 556 604
  • Ring, Ancient Law of Destiny — an Ancient Law artifact/power mastered by Mu Shaoan. 658
  • Plague God Seal — helps remove his curse and gives him substantial resistance to the Third Generation Insecticide. 580
  • Saber — carried during his amnesiac period in World 404. 348

Relationships

  • Zhang Yang — older cousin, rival, ally, and frequent target of Mu Shaoan’s mockery. Their relationship is built on mutual distrust but also repeated cooperation, including the defense of the Sword Immortal World and the completion of the Plague God Seal. 554 580 601
  • Mu Shaojun — older brother; died naturally at the age of 120. 445
  • Li Guokui — fellow sub-plane lord and collaborator. Li Guokui seeks Mu Shaoan’s Chess Sword Immortals and Demonic Bladesmen in exchange for building anti-curse grand halls. 604
  • Jiang Rong — fellow sub-plane lord who joins Mu Shaoan in managing the Sword Immortal World’s defensive preparations. 619 628
  • Qin Shu — Zhang Yang’s sub-account and one of Mu Shaoan’s ten most trusted subordinates. 663
  • 09 Sub-Account — uneasy collaborator during the expedition into the Ancient Human Race curse branch; their goals repeatedly conflict. 663 667
