209. Cracking the Rules
"The rules of the [Horror Cinema] are simple: we must sit here and watch the movie. We cannot choose not to listen or watch until the movie ends. If we are still alive, we can escape from here."
"At the same time, the movie will show terrifying events with us as the main characters. If we waver and react like the characters in the horror movie, then we will be affected by the movie plot and get hurt."
"As we are hurt, our seats will move forward, and with each forward movement, the damage will become more severe. Perhaps, when the seats are moved to the front row, something irreversible will happen."
"We can do other things, like chatting and talking like this, as long as it's not a frightened reaction to the stimulation from the movie, then we won't get hurt."
"Just like in the movie, when I suddenly stand up, Remington turns around and is punished, but Feng Yu stands up of his own volition and is therefore not punished."
Lu Ban gave a brief summary. He glanced at the big screen, where several people were still sitting in their chairs. Something seemed to be swaying behind them, but everyone's attention was focused on listening to Lu Ban's words, and they didn't pay much attention to the plot of the movie.
"But we still have to sit here and watch this movie before we can leave safely."
Remington's hand wound had stopped bleeding, apparently thanks to some special method.
Lu Ban didn't know if the Black Tower taught magic. He only knew that the Black Tower had an Otherworldly Stealth Technique, some assassination and concealment tools, and a little bit of the Black Tower's history that he learned from the goods in the Silence Department Store.
Remington meant that as long as they were watching a movie, they would inevitably be moved by the images presented on the screen, and eventually fall into the trap step by step.
There is no way in this world to both watch a movie and not watch a movie.
"Actually, there is."
As Lu Ban spoke, he took out his phone.
Taking advantage of Remington's inattention, he aimed the phone at his "Last Words" and fired.
The phone immediately started playing a cheerful and energetic song.
Good Luck, Good Luck good luck bring you joy and love.
It's "Good Luck".
Remington and Zi Tang were clearly hearing this song for the first time.
The two looked at each other, only able to tell that it was a very festive song.
"Does this song possess some extraordinary power that can dispel evil?"
Remington inquired, "Some mages in the Grey Tower focus on music magic and can actually use magic through music. Does this man also have similar skills?"
Zi Tang dared not speak, fearing that she would suffer some misfortune again. She crossed her arms and listened to the cheerful songs, but she could not feel happy at all.
"No, it's just a song."
Lu Ban vehemently denied it.
"The horror plot ultimately relies on the creation of atmosphere. When the background music of a horror movie becomes a cheerful song, no matter what happens, it won't scare you. You'll see."
He pointed to the movie screen.
Remington and Zi Tang looked over.
On the big screen, the man with stitched-up face and a sharp knife returned to the screening room, following closely as he approached the four people.
Remington immediately held his breath, afraid of being discovered.
Even if you tell him that the movie is just a fiction and that such a serial killer doesn't exist in reality, Remington will still react instinctively.
But
Good Luck, Good Luck good luck bring you joy and love.
The woman's singing voice made the killer's actions seem ridiculous, especially since several times his steps were perfectly in sync with the rhythm, which made it even funnier. For some reason, Remington's fear eased considerably until he saw the other person come to his side and raise the dagger in his hand.
Good Luck, Good Luck good luck bring you joy and love.
Remington couldn't help but sing along with Lu Ban's phone. He watched the dagger fall and slit his throat to the tune of "Good Luck," but in reality, nothing happened.
Inspired by Remington, Zi Tang also started singing along. She seemed to know a lot about music theory. Compared to Remington's off-key singing, Zi Tang quickly grasped the melody and sang quite well.
Suddenly, the song "Good Luck" echoed through the eerie movie theater.
"I thought you would use some more extraordinary methods?"
Feng Yu was clearly somewhat taken aback by the current situation.
"The best way to eliminate fear is to face it. In fact, I came to this conclusion because I have been studying the relevant theories and psychology."
Lu Ban started humming the melody of "Good Luck" along with himself.
The atmosphere in the entire movie theater became a bit strange.
The big screen showed scenes of Lu Ban and others being tortured and harmed by ghosts in fear, but in reality, it was three people singing a chorus, with different parts. Feng Yu couldn't help but chuckle as he watched this.
"You really are an interesting guy."
She was smiling happily.
After what seemed like an eternity, the movie finally came to an end. Lu Ban and the others in the movie died tragically, but the people sitting in the theater sang happily.
Lu Ban also taught them many songs from the Spring Festival Gala, but it's unknown whether these songs can be popularized in a foreign land.
Music knows no borders!
When the screen went black, Remington saw the system's cold and indifferent words projected onto the screen.
[Task Completed]
[Whether to choose to return]
He didn't make a direct choice, but instead glanced at Lu Ban and Feng Yu.
"Thank you all this time. I hope we'll meet again someday, or perhaps we'll never see each other again."
Remington had no desire to return to this unreasonable world.
He gradually disappeared into the air.
As for Zi Tang, after solemnly thanking Lu Ban and Feng Yu, she also left this world.
"So this is what the special effects look like when leaving a foreign land."
As Lu Ban watched the two figures gradually become transparent and disappear from the air, as if they had never existed, he murmured to himself.
He suddenly realized that the atmosphere around him had changed.
The empty screening room disappeared, replaced by a full audience.
On the big screen, the Dragon Seal had just appeared, and "The Crying" had not yet begun.
"They're really back."
Lu Ban felt as if he had also gone through a mission.
However, this task is significantly simpler than the previous ones.
The sports events that Lu Ban could get through with "Good Luck" were no problem for him.
He turned to look at Feng Yu beside him, but the woman had fallen asleep at some point, her head resting on the sofa, looking very quiet.
Lu Ban had a general idea of why Feng Yu had asked him to come today.
At least Lu Ban now knows what makes this world extraordinary, and that those strange creatures that act according to their own rules might appear around him.
"So, she's reminding me?"
Lu Ban belatedly realized what was happening and glanced at the sleeping Feng Yu.
He also thought that this woman might simply have encountered a mission in the Silent Land and brought Lu Ban along as a source of amusement and entertainment.
