510. Robot Girl Had No Sad Expression
Lu Ban's house.
Feng Yu, who was watching TV, suddenly stopped what he was doing.
"Um?"
In her field of vision, the surrounding scenery changed, and the television, sofa, and coffee table were all connected by lines.
These lines extend infinitely in one direction, like afterimages caused by excessive speed.
If you look closely at this point, you will find that the lines of the television form overlapping televisions, and the images present a continuous scene, just like taking pictures of television over a period of time and placing them on top of each other.
This is time.
Feng Yu's race can see the flow of time.
"What went wrong with him, what caused the disturbance?"
Feng Yu muttered to himself.
"Impossible, it's already a closed loop; his future shouldn't change anymore. Unless..."
She thought of something—an existence capable of disrupting the spatial and temporal relationships of other realms and the entire cycle of fate, an existence that transcends time and space, laws and chaos.
A little blood trickled from her nose.
Just being aware of this is enough to have a physical impact.
Laika came closer and rubbed against Feng Yu's feet, looking very uneasy.
"It's nothing, he just left my sight for a moment."
Feng Yu patted Laika's head.
Immediately, Feng Yu's eyes turned completely red.
She took a step forward, as if she had crossed time itself.
Swoosh—
Feng Yu's figure disappeared.
"Awooo—"
Only Laika barked twice, the sound echoing in the empty living room.
Am I already dead?
Thinking of this, Frostheart suddenly sat up.
She took deep breaths, and the humid air made Frostheart's nasal cavity feel a sensation she didn't realize.
She found herself in a torrential downpour.
The Future City has been reduced to ruins. The dilapidated dome of the Ecological Park is exposed, and the vegetation inside has been eaten away and is uneven. The street cleaning robots have stopped moving and are drooping to the side, lifeless.
More robots lay sprawled on the ground, and in the distance, solar panels collected rainwater, forming a small waterfall.
The desert ground, soaked black by the rain, stuck to Frostheart's hands, and she found it hard to believe.
Looking outwards, she saw endless dark clouds and flashing Thunder —a sight Frostheart had never seen before.
The storm seemed to stretch for hundreds of kilometers, and the sky was shrouded in gloom as far as the eye could see.
Frostheart stood up.
She felt like her body was about to fall apart.
She found Shana and the Singer, whose two companions were still unconscious, breathing evenly.
Frostheart was momentarily confused as to how she had become like this.
As she reminisced, she walked out of Future City.
They went to the Industrial Park to look for information, then discovered a wormhole connecting to another world. After that, a swarm of insects attacked, followed by the robot defenses. Later, the swarm broke through all the defenses and blotted out the sky.
Thinking of this, Frostheart's head began to ache.
All she remembered was a deafening explosion, followed by a shockwave that sent them flying and knocked them unconscious.
Before she completely lost sight of them, Frostheart only remembered that the swarm of insects seemed to be attracted by something and quickly moved away.
Frostheart supported herself as she moved forward. The heavy rain replenished her moisture, and her bare feet sank into the damp sand, the cool sensation refreshing her.
Soon, Frostheart saw the Robot Girl lying on the ground.
Her body was already mutilated, and as the commander on the front line, the swarm did not spare Lin.
The beautiful dress was shattered; hands, feet, and most of the body were missing; wires and chips were exposed, cooling in the rain.
Lin's face was half bare, revealing a metallic appearance.
"Lin".
Frostheart knelt down and helped the robot up.
She had never known before that this Robot Girl could be so heavy.
Sizzle sizzle—
A chilling crackling sound rang out, Frostheart saw that Lin's once lively eyes regained some of their luster.
The mechanical structure's pupil turned toward the Frostheart, but did not focus.
"I'm sorry, my monitor seems to be malfunctioning, and I can't see you right now."
Lin's voice was no longer as crisp as before, but had become more mechanical, flat, and stiff.
"Miss Frostheart, are you alright? Are your companions safe?"
Upon hearing Lin's words, Frostheart felt a tightness in her heart.
She hadn't expected that, at this moment, Lin, upon waking up, would first and foremost be concerned about the safety of the group.
"We're all safe. The swarm has left. We're safe now. We can go home."
Frostheart said.
"Is that so? That's wonderful. We have successfully protected humanity and kept our oath."
Lin's voice became somewhat intermittent, like a radio that had run out of power.
"That's enough. Let's go home. The saints will surely heal you. You can continue to help us and stay with us."
Frostheart sniffed.
The rain was pouring down, and the raindrops fell into Lin's eyes, like tears constantly overflowing, wetting her entire cheeks.
"I'm sorry, because I'm a robot, I don't have a sad expression."
"Frostheart, Miss, I already know."
Lin's voice remained gentle, and even with the added static, it still felt warm and comforting.
"The person we're waiting for is no longer here."
"I've always said that we can't leave Future City and that we have to wait here for humanity to return, but I know very well that I have the most advanced logic processing unit here, and I know that humanity will not come back."
"Something may have happened in this world that I don't know about. Humanity may have been in danger elsewhere. In the hundreds of days we've been here, my logic processing unit has told me more than once that humanity will never come back."
"But I still have hope. I think there might be some kind of malfunction that made me question the judgment of the highest-level logic processing unit. I have been willfully letting everyone in Future City accompany me for so many years."
"So, I thank you. Your arrival proves that I am not malfunctioning. Although the person we are waiting for has not returned, there are definitely, definitely, definitely other humans in this world, and other robots waiting for humans just like us."
"How enviable it is that they were able to wait for humanity to return and serve everyone again."
"Miss Frostheart, please live well. This is my greatest wish."
Lin's voice became increasingly mechanical, until finally, she could no longer even organize her thoughts into words.
Frostheart didn't know whether the water on her face was rain or tears.
She just felt that the world was terrible.
Real humans have turned into monsters.
Man-made robots possess emotions that are more steadfast and noble than those of humans.
The things worth living for are about to pass away.
What should be destroyed remains eternally unchanged.
"Miss Frostheart."
Lin's voice suddenly softened again, as if she had used up her last bit of strength. She raised her hand and wiped away the tears on Frostheart's face.
"The future of this world belongs to you."
"Those of you who have a brilliant past, who have endured hardships and struggled to survive, will surely overcome these tribulations and reach a better tomorrow."
So please don't cry.
The Robot Girl was silent.
The sound of rain suddenly became very loud, engulfing everything in the world, engulfing this desolate world.
