Background / History

Linyuan Prefecture operations

The Southern District yamen is one of the Fengtian Division's many branches in Linyuan Prefecture City. It is responsible for a crowded, disorderly marketplace and maintains daily roll calls, patrol assignments, and token-based check-in procedures. 5 11

The division publicly presents itself as an enforcer of dynastic law, tasked with patrolling the prefectural city and apprehending lawbreakers. Its constables invoke this authority against gangs and other armed groups. 49 60

Its authority was initially compromised by local corruption. In White Stone Alley, the Fierce Tiger Hall was permitted to control its territory so long as it maintained superficial order and paid tribute to chief constables. 11

Green Fish Gang bounty

After destroying the Green Fish Gang's main force at First Heavenly Chasm, the division issued a force-wide bounty for surviving members. Rewards ranged from one to five taels for minor gang members, thirty taels for the injured Body Tempering Second Layer cultivator “Mottled Fish,” and one hundred taels plus major merit for “Flatfish.” 30

The bounty created a path for temporary constables to earn merit and seek formal registration, while also mobilizing the division's constables into competing search teams. 30 31

Cleansing corruption and demonic infiltration

The Myriad Demon Sect infiltrated the division through officials including Chief Constable Shen Shikang, who used his position to identify and deliver people with valuable bloodlines to the sect. 140

A hidden ledger later exposed a wider bribery network among Fengtian Division officials. Xiao Yunting ordered the arrest of every named suspect regardless of rank, triggering an internal purge. 174 175

The division subsequently conducted raids throughout Linyuan Prefecture, arrested suspected sect members, dismantled criminal networks, and absorbed former Black Fiend Gang informants into a street intelligence network. 146 219

Later crises

The Fengtian Division became a battlefield during repeated attacks by the Myriad Demon Sect, including the assault by the Nine Golden Gowns on its Linyuan compound and the later Loess Puppet infiltration. 166 277 312

At the Capital City level, Pacification Commissioner Lin Yuan was revealed as a powerful traitor connected to the Myriad Tribulation Sect. He later led elite headquarters troops in an attempted takeover of the Linyuan Fengtian Division. 332 335

By the events surrounding Xue Wencheng's death, the Capital City Fengtian Division retained a heavily guarded forbidden area and was overseen by Grand Protector Shen Zhong. 391

Demon Suppressing Squad
