Background / History
Mu Wanjun served as the Fengtian Division’s young Chief Constable of the Southern District. During Wu Haihua’s ambush, she endured repeated injuries while holding off him and his subordinates. When one of the sect’s deacons moved to kill Ye Qingxuan—the unknown person sounding a gong for reinforcements—she abandoned her defense to protect him. 52 53
After the battle, Mu recognized Ye’s courage and resourcefulness despite his low status as a temporary constable. She noted his name, later summoned him in secret, and became one of the first senior officers to see his potential. 54 63
Ye’s reports on the Myriad Demon Sect earned Mu’s confidence. She promoted him to a registered Lieutenant after he brought evidence of the sect’s activities, used his surveillance of Jia Mansion to begin an official investigation, and warned him that his rise had made him a target within the division. 89 90 91 95
Mu chose to support Ye even after discovering inconsistencies in his account of the West Mountain Valley incident. Her assessment of his extraordinary defensive martial art convinced her that he was a rare talent worth investing in rather than an opportunist to be exposed. 106
During the Fengtian Division’s clash with the Myriad Demon Sect, Mu fought three peak Skin Refining Realm leaders while commanding the Southern District’s forces. Ye’s ambush of Wu Haihua created an opening for her Green Lotus Sword Song, and their coordinated assault severely injured the peak Qi Sea Realm enemy and forced his retreat. 109 110
Mu learned of the Myriad Tribulation Sect’s connection to Ye Caiwei’s bloodline and agreed to conceal the information temporarily to keep Caiwei from becoming a target. 115 Later, evidence found in Shen Shikang’s notes cast suspicion on Mu’s own cultivation lineage, revealing that her family’s Qingjiang Art had roots in a lost Myriad Tribulation Sect auxiliary method. 142 145
When the Myriad Demon Sect Master cornered Ye, Mu arrived with the Demon Suppressing Squad and attacked despite the disparity in strength. She used a self-destructive technique to protect Ye, suffering severe internal backlash and damaged meridians. 145 146 Ye’s Mysterious Yellow Qi subsequently stabilized her condition, and Mu confirmed that her family preserved a forbidden chapter of the Qingjiang Art. 146 148
At Cold Bone Lake, Mu accompanied Ye in investigating the Nine Revolutions Cold Dew. Li Sheng’s Profound Yin True Qi suppressed her related cultivation method and gravely wounded her, but Ye expelled the foreign qi through the resonance between his Xuanhuang energy and her bloodline. 187 188 Afterward, she disclosed her family’s connection to the Myriad Demon Sect and accepted Xiao Yunting’s protective confinement. 189
Mu later established an independent Fengtian Division Special Operations Team to trace the Myriad Demon Sect’s Great Steward. She directed Wei Datong, Xiong Tiezhu, and Zeng Jihe in investigating locations, records, and suspicious figures linked to the sect. 204 205
After Ye departed Linyuan Prefecture for the capital, Mu gave him a jade pendant containing an emergency sound-transmission method and shared an emotional farewell with him. 238 She later resigned as Chief Constable and became the Divine Marquis Mansion’s chief steward, taking responsibility for its finances and logistics. 280
Mu and Ye openly confessed their feelings after he gave her a Star Pattern Jade hairpin for her birthday. She also defused the imperial court’s suspicion of Ye by advising him to surrender command of Linyuan’s city-defense forces while retaining the Divine Marquis Mansion’s core authority. 284
When Ye became implicated in the investigation of Prince Cheng and the Myriad Tribulation Sect, Mu severed ties with her family rather than abandon him. 333 She later uncovered the Mu Family’s original purpose: its ancestors were appointed to monitor the Myriad Tribulation Sect and wield the Observer’s Sword should the sect threaten the state. 347
Appearance
Mu Wanjun is described as an exceptionally beautiful woman in her early twenties, though her bearing and authority initially make her seem older. When on duty, she favors a sharp black martial uniform and a high ponytail; outside official duties, she is often seen in plain or moon-white dresses. 54 63 180
- Exquisite features and sharp, knife-like eyes. 54 63
- Tall, slender build with a martial presence stronger than that of many men. 63
- Long dark hair, usually tied high for combat. 63 180
- Often carries a long sword and wears a cold, composed expression in battle. 109 145
Personality
Mu is disciplined, observant, and difficult to read. She initially speaks with little emotion, but her decisions show that she values courage, competence, and loyalty over rank or background. Her willingness to promote Ye, trust his intelligence, and shield his secrets reflects a practical but compassionate judgment. 54 89 106 115
She is also tenacious under pressure. Even when outnumbered, wounded, or confronted with revelations about her family, Mu continues to act as a Fengtian Division officer and protect those under her command. 109 145 189
Her reserved manner gradually gives way to open affection for Ye Qingxuan. She worries over his injuries, provides intelligence and supplies for his missions, and ultimately chooses him over her family’s demands. 184 229 238 333
