Mu Wanjun served as the Fengtian Division’s young Chief Constable of the Southern District. During Wu Haihua’s ambush, she endured repeated injuries while holding off him and his subordinates. When one of the sect’s deacons moved to kill Ye Qingxuan—the unknown person sounding a gong for reinforcements—she abandoned her defense to protect him. 52 53

After the battle, Mu recognized Ye’s courage and resourcefulness despite his low status as a temporary constable. She noted his name, later summoned him in secret, and became one of the first senior officers to see his potential. 54 63

Ye’s reports on the Myriad Demon Sect earned Mu’s confidence. She promoted him to a registered Lieutenant after he brought evidence of the sect’s activities, used his surveillance of Jia Mansion to begin an official investigation, and warned him that his rise had made him a target within the division. 89 90 91 95
