Caiwei grew up with her older brother, Ye Qingxuan, in severe poverty in Linyuan Prefecture's Southern District. At around nine years old, she was sallow and thin from hardship, yet retained large, bright eyes and an eager affection for food and home life 1 203.

Despite her age, she understood their financial difficulties. She quietly saved a few coppers and a small piece of silver in a clumsily embroidered pouch, intending to accumulate twenty taels for Ye Qingxuan's future bride price 9. She also supported his body-tempering training by preparing meals, giving him her share of beef, and ensuring he ate enough to recover 4 14.

Caiwei trusted Ye Qingxuan's promise that he would change their lives. When he became an official Fengtian Division constable, she regarded his uniform and waist token with tearful pride, believing that nobody would be able to bully them again 3 56.

Bloodline crisis

Caiwei repeatedly noticed traces of blood on Ye Qingxuan after his retaliatory killings against Hu Jiudao's gang. Though she understood that something was wrong, she accepted her brother's instructions without exposing him to the Fierce Tiger Hall or the Fengtian Division 43 47.

Her dormant Shaoyang Remnant Bloodline was identified after the Myriad Demon Sect's activities drew attention to the Ye family. The bloodline's strong yang nature made her a target for the sect's Yin-Yang Transformation technique, which required her as a “cauldron” and would drain her life essence 115 159 160.

Caiwei's bloodline evolved rapidly, giving her robust health, increased appetite, and the ability to absorb ambient energy unconsciously 203. Her power later awakened in response to the Capital City's blood-sacrifice formation, allowing her to defend the dragon-vein core against corrupting energy 267.

After helping defeat Pudu Cihang and purifying the escaping demonic energy, she was enfeoffed as Princess Changle and taken to the Divine Palace under Mr. Mo's tutelage 268. She was subsequently recognized as the Divine Palace's Saintess, though Ye Qingxuan worried that its detached cultivation methods were making her emotionally distant 285.

During the imperial crisis, Caiwei achieved the ultimate form of the Great Sun True Body and later sacrificed most of that power to create an opening against Zhao Wuji 345 348. Ye Qingxuan saved her with Heavenly Dao Merit; she awakened having lost her cultivation and divine body, but was relieved to be an ordinary girl again 349.
