Background / History
Wen Rou is Wen Fusheng's daughter from Luochen Mountain Manor. Because of her unusual constitution, Wen Fusheng sent her to the Great Easy Sect, where she became a direct disciple of Cui Bunü. She describes her master, mistress, and senior brothers as kind to her despite her father’s guilt over sending her away. 115 130 315
Her Heavenly Fragrance Scent Body leaves her emotionally muted and threatens her life, motivating Wen Fusheng's years-long search for Heavenly Secrets Valley and the Earth Character Scroll of the Book of the Immutable Heavens. 126 130 131
Wen Rou first encounters Chu Qing in Heavenly Dance City while Mei Qianluo attempts to exploit her apparent naïveté for information. She sees through his scheme, fights him using Great Easy Sect techniques, and is poisoned by his concealed silver needle. Chu Qing intervenes against Mei Qianluo and later obtains an antidote for her. 41 43 48
After repeated attacks and attempted kidnappings, Wen Rou travels with Chu Qing and her fellow disciples toward Luochen Mountain Manor. There, she reunites with Wen Fusheng and learns that his reported assassination was staged to expose enemies within the manor. 105 108 114 115
Following the events at Luochen Mountain Manor, Wen Fusheng secretly sends Wen Rou to continue accompanying Chu Qing. Their travels take them across the Northern Ridge, where she helps investigate the Mirror of Sin and search for the Earth Character Scroll. 153 164 231 315
Wen Rou eventually begins cultivating the Earth Character Scroll manual. The technique visibly helps her emotional condition, allowing her to smile naturally for the first time. 473
Appearance
Wen Rou is a beautiful young woman whose usually expressionless face and cold bearing make her difficult to read. She is notably petite and frequently accompanies Chu Qing in male disguises when secrecy is needed. 86 101 156 427
- Usually maintains a calm, blank expression even in dangerous situations. 42 124
- Has a soft, delicate appearance that contrasts with her capable martial arts. 101 190
- Has used the identities of a scholar-like young gentleman and “Han Si.” 101 156
- Can wear a Mirror of Sin Painted Skin disguise without discomfort. 190
Personality
Wen Rou initially appears simple, detached, and socially inexperienced. Mei Qianluo mistakes this for foolishness, but she quickly exposes his attempt to obtain information and refuses to be intimidated by strangers questioning her origins. 41 73
Her bluntness is tempered by strong personal boundaries. She does not pry into Chu Qing's secrets, but she speaks directly when she sees a problem and places deep trust in those whose intentions she has sensed over time. 126 156
The Heavenly Fragrance Scent Body suppresses her emotions and makes expressing them difficult. Beneath her cold exterior, however, she is curious, loyal, and increasingly lively; her internal reactions through Heavenly Sound Transmission reveal much more enthusiasm than her outward expression suggests. 130 417 438
Her growing emotional awareness leads her to seek answers about smiles, affection, relationships, and desire. She persistently asks questions until satisfied, then returns to her usual calm state. 105 315 316
