Background / History
The Mortal Transformation Pearl existed before the current world’s creation. It formed by absorbing the primordial essences of the Five Tai of Creation—Taiyi, Taichu, Taishi, Taisu, and Taiji—during the evolution from nothingness into existence. Though its grade prevented it from naturally developing sentience, a strand of Taiji true meaning gained consciousness while attempting to merge into it. That consciousness left part of its power behind as a beacon and traveled through the void into another world. Chen Mo is that primordial spiritual entity, which explains the pearl’s attraction to him and his eventual ability to master it 298.
At the beginning of Chen Mo’s cultivation, the pearl rested in his abdomen. Following his second transformation, he identified its position as his dantian, roughly three inches below his navel. It initially appeared transparent and colorless, turning crimson when charged with blood and qi, then returning to its clear state after expending its reserves 8 24.
Its early function was to accumulate Blood Essence and initiate successive Mortal Transformations. These transformations refined Chen Mo’s body in stages, beginning with muscle, bone, and sinew enhancement before progressing to internal organs, physical essence, sensory abilities, Mystic Apertures, Spirit Depths, and Dao-marked flesh 8 24 80 180.
After eleven transformations, ordinary blood qi was no longer sufficient. The pearl required both exceptionally pure blood qi and power from heaven-and-earth laws, supplied through heavenly spiritual items or gradual natural accumulation. It also ceased to benefit substantially from repeatedly absorbing the same type of law power, requiring new laws to continue transforming Chen Mo’s body 180 231.
Appearance
The pearl’s appearance reflects its charge and developmental state. It begins transparent and colorless, becomes wholly crimson when filled with Blood Essence, and develops blood-colored or mystical patterns as it stores excess power and undergoes further transformations 8 24 79 180.
- Resides in Chen Mo’s dantian; after his cultivation evolved, it floated at the center of his divine sea 24 298.
- Turns translucent crimson when its internal Blood Essence is full 58.
- Develops faint blood-colored surface patterns when charged beyond its original capacity 79.
- Became covered in numerous mystical patterns after repeated transformations and the incorporation of Dao marks 180.
Abilities & Skills
Blood Essence Accumulation and Mortal Transformation
The pearl absorbs and stores Blood Essence, then releases it through Chen Mo’s body to perform controlled physical transformations.
- Strengthens flesh, blood, muscles, bones, sinews, and internal organs 8 24.
- Repairs hidden injuries, cultivation damage, inflammation, and other physical deficiencies during each transformation 8 58 80 108.
- Improves Chen Mo’s physical essence and longevity by restoring vitality depleted through strenuous external martial arts 80.
- Requires renewed accumulation after each use; every successive transformation demands more power because Chen Mo’s body becomes stronger 8.
- Can safely absorb quantities of Blood Essence that would harm ordinary martial artists unable to process such nourishment 79.
Storage and Refinement
The pearl refines compatible resources into Blood Essence or law power and can retain excess charge beyond a single transformation.
- Absorbed Blood Essence from the Crimson Bloodstone, raising its charge from roughly thirty percent to nearly sixty percent 49.
- Stored surplus Blood Essence as blood-colored patterns after a Blood Essence Stone filled it beyond capacity 79.
- Converted Blood Yuan Stones, Shen Ling, pills, rare treasures, Heaven and Earth Yuan Stones, and Demon Cores into usable power 130 139 186 260.
- Rapidly absorbed the exceptionally pure bloodline power of a Five-Clawed Golden Dragon’s Inverse Scale 231.
- Subdued and absorbed the destructive power of Annihilation contained within a Ruin Crystal 243.
Law Cleansing and Dao-Mark Integration
At higher stages, the pearl releases refined heaven-and-earth laws alongside blood qi, allowing Chen Mo’s body and inner world to absorb Dao marks.
- Cleanses Chen Mo’s body with law power rather than relying on Blood Essence alone 182.
- Lets Chen Mo attempt dangerous Dao-mark integration repeatedly, because the released Blood Essence repairs injuries caused by failure 182.
- Stabilizes turbulent laws inside Chen Mo’s small world and incorporates those laws into his strength 243.
- Requires new and distinct law power for continued effectiveness; repeatedly absorbed laws become difficult for it to use again 231.
Great Dao Evolution
After Chen Mo mastered it, the pearl’s deeper function was revealed: refining and evolving the laws of heaven and earth.
- Enhances a martial artist’s essence, qi, and spirit during transformation, not merely the physical body 298.
- Refines and integrates heaven-and-earth laws that Chen Mo could not safely absorb on his own 298.
- Devoured Shifting Seas laws, converted their order into heavenly-and-earthly law power, and used that power to strengthen Chen Mo’s small world 298.
- Helped Chen Mo reverse his small world toward Taiji and comprehend the true meaning of one of the Five Tai of Creation 298.
- Accelerated the recovery of Chen Mo’s body and inner-world laws by stimulating its Dao-evolution function 298.
Durability
The pearl possesses no inherent offensive capability, but its grade and durability allow it to bear the power of great Dao.
- Can function as an exceptionally rare combat treasure despite lacking direct attacks 298.
- Is described as pseudo-transcendent or half-step transcendent in status due to its origin and capacity to bear Dao power 298.
Charging Resources
- Blood and qi / Blood Essence — the pearl’s original fuel; naturally accumulated through Chen Mo’s cultivation and physical condition 8 23.
- Crimson Bloodstone — released a surge of blood energy when infused with inner energy 49.
- Living flesh of the Odd Deer — supplied exceptionally pure Blood Essence and shortened the estimated wait for another transformation by months 71.
- Blood Essence Stones — could fill the pearl and create surplus blood-pattern storage 79.
- Blood Yuan Stones and Shen Ling — major sources for later transformations, including the seventh through ninth transformations 130 143 167.
- Blood Sea energy — supplied both blood energy and Dao patterns, though Chen Mo stopped at roughly forty percent charge to avoid adverse changes 189.
- Heaven and Earth Yuan Stones and spiritual liquid — supplied the blood energy and law power required after the pearl’s higher-stage evolution 179 186.
- Dragon’s Inverse Scale — provided pure dragon bloodline laws; eventually became unsuitable for further charging because its remaining power was largely repetitive 231 290.
- Ruin Crystal — supplied Annihilation laws and fully recharged the pearl while consuming over half of the crystal’s power 243.
- Demon Cores — four Mystic Power Realm Demon Cores were enough to fully charge it 260.
- Supreme Shen Ling — enabled the pearl to absorb and refine the laws connected to the Shifting Seas 298.
Relationships
- Chen Mo — Host, user, and eventual master. The pearl initially enabled his Mortal Transformations; Chen later discovered that its Taiji spiritual essence was part of his own origin 8 298.
- Shifting Seas — After mastery, the pearl refined its laws into Chen Mo’s nourishment instead of permitting their erosive power to transform him 298.
