Background

Nayue was born a Pure-blooded Witch in String God Island’s Demon Race Special Zone. Pure-blooded witches who fail to form a demon contract before adulthood inevitably die; because she was identified early, she was raised and trained as a witch from childhood. 11

The Artificial Island Management Corporation exploited that upbringing. It arranged magical instruction under Chiga Teruhito, the “Treasure of the East,” while coercing Nayue into becoming the future administrator of an abandoned Prison Barrier. She lacked the strength to refuse them. 11

Before completing her contract, Nayue was already an elite Demon Slayer with an unusual gift for spatial sorcery. She encountered Saigō’s black invitation while travelling to school and, despite recognizing its terrifying power, chose to accept the contract. Her soul became the price for the magical power needed to become a full Witch. 12 13

Her central wish was peaceful coexistence between humans and demons. To preserve that possibility and prevent Sendou Aya from sinking String God Island through the Dark Oath, Nayue activated the Prison Barrier and made Aya its first prisoner, binding herself into the barrier’s operation in the process. 16 18 20

Appearance

Nayue has the outward appearance of a young girl despite having been a high school student at the time of her contract. A spell halted her physical development, leaving her with a doll-like appearance that contrasts with her composed, authoritative manner. 10 17
