Back in the present, Shade investigated the World Tree’s remnants and Sir Wayne’s time crossings, then entered the burning Hoy Manor to search its trapdoor.

• Shade arranged a scarce-goods deal with Sir Wayne and learned from Gerald Delong that the Truth Society was pursuing the Difference Engine.
• Shade uncovered Mrs. Shatara and George Kant’s demonic scheme, then joined Iluna and his allies to defeat them and destroy their escaping Black Flames.
• Shade helped the Doctor and Bill Schneider defeat the Fire Demon - Disaster, but a black tree attacked them and dragged Shade into the Gap of Time.
• Lady Helena Carter nursed Shade, helped him receive a Moon God’s blessing, and investigated Marisa’s Crow transformation with him before using the Ouroboros Ring to send him onward.
• Shade wagered Night Watchman at the Fate Casino and returned to the present, where the Doctor confirmed the battle was over and showed him a giant tree.
• Shade reunited with his friends, learned that the tree was tied to the World Tree Remnants, and used a hunter’s warning and the Sparking Twig to investigate the threat.
• Shade and Miss Danist discovered that Sir Wayne had crossed through time to move antiques, expelled a Paradox Worm from him, and advanced Danist to nine rings with a potion.
• Shade and Miss Danist reached Hoy Manor as it burned, and Shade found its trapdoor beneath the kitchen.

Shade uncovered the threat of the Paradox Worms beneath Vesta Woodland as Emilia awakened her elven power and moved toward becoming Elf King. After an attacker marked Emilia, the group prepared to use Flora as a decoy, and the arc ended with a Jet-Black Dragon Beast attacking Emilia’s companions before being destroyed.

• Shade investigated the Hoy Family’s treasure and traced its gold to Slawen Mine, where he found sleeping Paradox Worms and learned that the Hermits guarded a failing seal beneath Vesta Woodland.
• Angelina became invisible after acquiring the Contract of Trembling, and Shade and Galina discovered the relic’s hidden page before Luvia explained its seven-day terms.
• Shade and Luvia learned that the four chairs beneath the Tree concealed a powerful Ancient One, while Emilia gained her six-ring Destiny Ring through the Forest Elf’s ritual.
• A halfling assassin attacked Emilia, but Shade and Vanessa drove him off, and the Countess found a tracking mark on Emilia that Flora agreed to share as a decoy.
• Emilia presented the Elven Royal Authority to the clan representatives and agreed to pursue becoming the Tree Father’s heir so she could unite the elves against the Murmuring Chapters.

Shade investigated the World Tree’s history and prepared for Emilia’s journey into the past while Angelina confronted a painful dream and awakened new powers. As the Illusion Dream Tree spread its miasma over Vesta City, Shade and his allies began protecting the sleepers and faced a choice between holding their position and attacking the relic.

• Sivie and Galina defeated a halfling assassin, while Shade rescued Vanessa from the dragon’s lifespan-draining White Fog and the Clockmaker trapped Shade and the Elf Girl in a frozen world before the Elf Girl won their first Time War battle.
• Shade explored the flooded Academy ruins with Iluna and the witches, discovered its key and the Guardian God’s warning, and fought an ice-sculpted Heartless Demon Person with Miss Wilde, who revealed her Green Dragon form.
• Shade learned from Cherub that a World Tree fragment had empowered Strange Tree Academy and that the world might need a World Tree, then returned to Tobesk and sought Priest Augustus’s counsel about Emilia’s possible fate.
• Emilia defeated Luvia in their duel but froze at the sight of her hair, and Shade traveled to 1821 to consult Helena Carter before agreeing that Emilia would begin her journey through time.
• Luvia warned Shade that a difficult choice awaited in Vesta Woodland, while Miss Sylvia and Dorothy built a Teleportation Gate and the Mist Crow Brotherhood focused on the Chosen Ones.
• The Illusion Dream Tree’s green miasma put Vesta City into strange dreams, where Angelina met Leisha and delivered a box to an apartment in a dream of a life in which Shade had never existed.
• Angelina faced the despair in Leisha’s dream, awakened new rings and Spirit Runes, and gained Invisible Man and Heart Lock before waking and learning that the dream relic could turn overwhelmed people into plants.
• Shade and his allies protected Vesta City’s sleepers as Vanessa and Sivie searched the forest for the Illusion Dream Tree’s main body, and Luvia asked whether they should defend their position or take action.

Shade investigated the Kindel Family’s connection to a Dragon Egg while preparing to travel through a Tree Hollow. When the Hollow locked, he uncovered a wooden record revealing how Kinsley Kindel hatched from the egg and lived with the man who raised it.

• Shade and the Churches discovered that the Illusion Dream Tree had cultivated Paradox Worms, then Shade and Iluna helped defeat the worms as the Watcher was reborn from a cocoon.
• Shade learned that Emilia had traveled into the past, helped Doctor Schneider devise a way to restrain his demonic power, and found links between the Kindel Family and Dragonkin blood.
• Shade and Flora questioned Annie Dupont and Jessica, who described their shared ancestry and led Shade to the Kindel manor ruins, where he found a Tree Hollow and an Eggshell Shard.
• Shade tried to open the Tree Hollow with the Ashes River Valley key, but the Tree Father’s power locked it, so he went to investigate the Kindel Family’s abandoned orchard instead.
• Shade and Doctor Schneider traded with the Mist Crow Brotherhood, and the owl found a wooden key that opened a projection on the Tree Hollow’s board.
• The projection showed the Dragon Egg being buried in Year 227, dug up in 308, and discovered by a Kindel man in 1457, who cared for it until it hatched in 1479.
• The dragon, named Kinsley Kindel, lived with the man until his death in 1499, then carried his coffin to its nest and found Zatanah’s bottle.
• Kinsley refused to wish for the man’s revival and instead asked Zatanah to record their story, which Zatanah inscribed on a wooden board with a key to replay it.
