He had originally planned to use the evening to ask Dorothy about the exam, but they had barely spread their books out before the fireplace when the burning-hot badge against Shade's chest warned him that a witch had arrived downstairs.
The ringing of the bell downstairs came a little later than the badge's heat, giving Shade time to look out through the living room window. The familiar carriage rolling in from the snow-covered city meant that Miss Galina, rather than Miss Sylvia, had come to visit.
"What's this about a demon?"

"Let's go upstairs and talk. But don't worry, it isn't a particularly terrifying demon. I've already found a way to deal with it."
