The monsters wandering around the hotel grew fewer and fewer. At last, an invisible ripple swept out from the basement through the entire building, then skimmed across the forest floor around it, which had turned red for some unknown reason. The monsters drawn here by the souls and flesh of the living finally stopped in confusion and continued wandering through the surrounding woods.

As long as there were not too many monsters nearby, the hotel could once again use its powerful concealment effect. Without an endless stream of reinforcements, the remaining monsters hidden in the woods near the hotel were quickly wiped out as well.

Without an ability like Shade's "Enhanced Space Perception," once someone became lost in the fog, even moving a dozen steps away from the hotel might mean never being able to return. Therefore, only Shade went deep into the fog alone to clear out the monsters lurking in the shadows, and only he could see clearly what exactly was wandering the island in confusion.

Night, thick fog, and rain obscured most of the details. The things lurking and wandering among the grass and tree trunks did not all share exactly the same appearance, yet they truly possessed similar details and the same eerie, disjointed quality in the way their forms were constructed.

Most of those things, which could change color according to their surroundings, bore traits of several different animals. Those animal traits were arranged and combined in ways utterly inconsistent with living creatures. Shade had even seen countless rat tails sprouting from a long, slender duck neck.

Besides their animal traits, their fragmented bodies and the sulfurous smell unique to Demons were also defining characteristics. It was not difficult to guess that these things were most likely creatures created during Laplace Klein Howard's Human Transmutation
