The information from Baron Chandler seemed to end there. Next, Mr. Bernhardt and coroner Mr. Albert would begin investigating the local Bloodkin from scratch.
But this time, unlike last time when Mr. Bernhardt had only investigated Same Race of higher bloodlines, they would be screening and investigating every member of the Same Race throughout the entire region.
This was an enormous undertaking, but it was also one of the few things they could currently do. Until now, Mr. Bernhardt had avoided contacting the true "leaders" or regional heads among the local Bloodkin, but it seemed he now had no choice but to speak with them.
What was even more dangerous for the two of them was that after tonight, the Bloodkin's reputation in Moon Bay City had been utterly ruined. They needed to conceal their identities as much as possible during the investigation. Once discovered, they likely would no longer be able to walk freely through Moon Bay.
Before leaving the morgue that night, Shade asked Mr. Albert again about the corpses that had died of "heart attacks." He had heard of such unusual bodies here last time, and later encountered the person who had fallen to their death at Margaret's banquet with Illustrious Miss. Shade therefore suspected there was a connection.
And Mr. Albert indeed gave him an answer:
"We can basically confirm that deaths by this kind of heart attack are definitely suspicious.
Among the bodies I have handled recently, there have been three more cases with similar causes of death. Without exception, they were all people with no history of heart disease who suddenly died of heart attacks. I even investigated the family medical histories of two of the corpses whose relatives I could locate. Neither family had hereditary heart disease."
"That is quite interesting."
Shade pondered
