The kettle in the room burbled atop the small stove Priest Augustus had built himself. The priest stood, took it off the heat, and shook his head.

Shade asked curiously.

The priest was deliberately vague. Shade knew that what he was about to say had to be related to an Ancient God.

It sounded like a story from the First Epoch, but Shade knew it actually meant that the Keeper of Secrets Mentor had once attempted to corrupt the death authority of the Ancient God of Death, but had failed.

The Thirteen Old Gods had never been entirely harmonious. Their authorities and powers were far beyond those of the Old Gods, which caused their powers to overlap.
