Chapter Summaries

Shade returned Mrs. Neilson and the others from Black Sand Dock to the Reality World, then parted ways with Ms. Brooke, who planned to return to her people and contact the Seer Association. Shade continued onward alone by boat, carrying a gift from the witch and leaving the others with no memory of their journey.

• Shade gathered the survivors and prepared to ferry them home, joining his small boat to the Boatman's vessel and borrowing Ms. Brooke's hair to guide the way.
• Shade rowed the fleet through the Great Fog and reached the lake where Ms. Brooke had entered Dark Town, only seven days after she had left reality.
