Background

Sasuke was an infant when the drifting spirit Yè Wúyuè entered and merged with his soul to avoid dissipating. For years, Yè Wúyuè controlled Sasuke’s body and lived as “Uchiha Sasuke,” while Sasuke remained largely dormant but experienced Yè Wúyuè’s memories and feelings. 3 99

After seeing memories of the original Uchiha tragedy, Sasuke feared that taking control could cause his family’s deaths to recur. He therefore allowed Yè Wúyuè to continue acting in his place, occasionally influencing his own body without openly emerging. 99

Yè Wúyuè ultimately left Sasuke’s body so he could live independently, giving him a Zanpakutō as a parting gift. Sasuke accepted that his family’s fate had changed and began living by his own will. 99 104

Yoru no Tsuki later publicly revealed that he had inhabited Sasuke’s body for thirteen years. Sasuke confirmed the possession to Itachi, Fugaku, and Konoha, while also acknowledging Yoru as a benefactor to the Uchiha family. 164 165

Personality

Sasuke is initially insecure and deeply afraid of losing his family, having inherited knowledge of the tragedy that once awaited the Uchiha. His hesitation to reclaim his own body stems from believing Yè Wúyuè was the reason his parents, brother, and clan survived. 99

After gaining independence, he values acting according to his own wishes and is strongly attached to Itachi. He is openly pleased by Itachi’s attention and wishes his brother could spend more time with him. 104 124

In battle, Sasuke is proud and direct. He disdains Kakuzu for fleeing, stating that he himself does not run even when seriously injured. 124
