Background / History

Itachi entered the Ninja Academy at six, though he routinely sent a shadow clone to class while training with Shisui. By seven, he had surpassed genin-level combat ability, combining advanced shuriken trajectories, Shadow Clones, Fire Release, and rapid tactical planning in a spar against Fugaku. 5 6

At eight, he returned from a bandit-eradication mission to find his family had prepared a birthday dinner. Overwhelmed by the contrast between the orphaned children he had seen on mission and the warmth of his home, he awakened a double-tomoe Sharingan. 11

When Uchiha Setsuna and his faction targeted Sasuke to frame Root, Itachi intervened, drove Setsuna away with an exploding clone, and used his genjutsu to make the remaining attackers kill themselves. He prioritized taking Sasuke home rather than pursuing Setsuna. 17

As a jōnin, Itachi formed and led Team 11, composed of Sasuke and Sōi/Sai. On their first mission, he chose a C-rank bandit-extermination assignment and used the Sharingan to extract intelligence from a captured bandit before assigning the stronghold assault to his teammates. 29 30 32

During the conflict with Orochimaru and the resurrected Hokage, the apparent mortal injury to Sasuke drove Itachi to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan. He used Amaterasu on Setsuna and Susanoo's Ten-Fist Sword to release and seal Hashirama's soul from Impure World Reincarnation. The sustained Susanoo use left him unconscious. 45 46

Yoru no Tsuki secretly drugged Itachi and transplanted cloned Mangekyō Sharingan into him. The transplant later manifested as an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, removing the ordinary Mangekyō's blindness drawback. 98 124 165

Itachi eventually learned that the “Sasuke” he had raised beside him for years had been Yoru no Tsuki possessing Sasuke's body. Though he and Fugaku initially resented the possession, they accepted Yoru as part of their family after recognizing his protection of the Uchiha. 164 165 173

Personality

Itachi is gentle and attentive toward those close to him. As a child, he cared for infant Sasuke despite his own young age; later, he remembered Sasuke's stated preference for hot pot and prepared it for him. 3 96

He is deeply opposed to war and wants a world in which shinobi understand one another. As Team 11's leader, he showed empathy toward Sōi's Root-conditioned lack of identity while still maintaining clear expectations of his squad. 29
