In the pitch-black, freezing mountain cave, Tangyuan built a pile of firewood while Light Bulb poured oil over it.
"Pour on more! This firewood isn't easy to light!"
Light Bulb was displeased. "Are you burning firewood, or burning me? This is my blood, don't you know?"
The fire caught, and the two of them shivered inside the cave.
Tangyuan sighed. "I wonder how Seventh Master is doing over there."
Light Bulb shook his head. "Food isn't easy to find in a place like this either. I reckon Seventh Master might not be back before dawn."
At Three Heads Junction, the wind and snow raged. It was colder here than anywhere in Pro State. Tangyuan anxiously went to the mouth of the cave and looked outside.
Light Bulb hurriedly told Tangyuan to get back inside. "Don't stay so close to the entrance! Did you forget what Seventh Master told you? If the daylight shines on you, you'll lose your life!"
Tangyuan and Light Bulb were on Radish Mountain, so named because the mountain looked like half a radish stuck into the ground.
According to Dark Star Bureau records, daylight appeared less frequently and with less intensity around Radish Mountain in Three Heads Junction. Quite a few people had settled nearby, and several villages had even formed.
But though people lived here, food was very difficult to obtain.
Light Bulb had tried knocking on someone's door. Asking for directions, water, or two sticks of firewood was no problem, but if he asked for food—even offering to pay—the other side would immediately shut the door.
They had sneaked onto the train in the morning, and by nightfall, they had barely eaten anything. Both of them were starving.
Light Bulb complained, "I don't know what I was thinking. Why did I listen to you?
