Background / History

Family, disgrace, and rescue

Shao Yang belonged to a collateral branch of White Cloud City’s Shao Family. His family’s standing depended heavily on his usefulness as a cultivator; after he lost his strength, they left the main estate and returned to their farmhouse outside the city. Shao Tianyi, the family’s eldest young master, still resented an earlier defeat at Shao Yang’s hands 138 1256.

His rivalry with Gongsun Zhe began when Shao Yang ranked one place above him on the Eastern Origin Rankings. Xiang Tiange aggravated the resentment, which developed into schemes against Shao Yang and Gongsun Zhe’s pursuit of Lei Qiqi, Shao Yang’s lover 588.

When Shao Yang was trapped in the Battle Realm, Shao Yue sought an instructor willing to rescue him. Lu Feng agreed to investigate and eventually found him among captives controlled through Soul Binding Patterns and Blood Arrays. Despite his own condition, Shao Yang asked Lu Feng to free captives who could still fight before treating him 554 852 1263 2025.

Joining Lu Feng

While training under Gao Liang, Shao Yang faced Shao Yue in an exchange match. She identified wasteful spiritual-energy transitions in his Day Hidden Spear Technique and defeated him with the Half Moon Leg Technique. Lu Feng’s criticism prompted him to question his fixation on victory and defeat 671 1295 1301.

Shao Yang subsequently left Gao Liang’s group and knelt outside Lu Feng’s classroom, refusing to leave even after learning that Lu Feng was absent. He resolved to abandon his pride for Shao Yue’s sake. Lu Feng eventually accepted him after recognizing his determination and his care for his family 130 356 671.

Under Lu Feng, he rebuilt his cultivation with a specially arranged Spirit Gathering Array and source stones. Lu Feng also gave him the Nine Suns Spear and demonstrated the vicious spear art associated with Xiang Tiange so that he could prepare counters 1368 1415 2060.

Instructor Tournament

Xiang Tiange challenged Shao Yang to a death match during the Instructor Tournament. Rather than immediately answering the provocation, Shao Yang deferred to Lu Feng, who permitted him to fight 217.

Shao Yang defeated Xiang Tiange through adaptable spear work, including using his bending spear shaft to redirect an attack and launch a counterattack. His victory secured the tournament for Lu Feng’s group; Xiang Tiange suffered backlash from the Blood Soul Spear secret art 300.

Battle Realm ordeals

During an attack by Thunder Fire Sect disciples, Shao Yang shifted from a desperate offensive to delaying action, trusting Qian Xin and Jun Ziyi to finish their battles and reinforce him. Lu Feng intervened when Ji Ding attempted to assassinate him 565.

At the Profound Gate, Shao Yang surrendered his group’s Convex Battle Tokens rather than expose his injured companions to further danger. Gongsun Zhe later sacrificed Lei Qiqi to cross the Gate of Grand Void. She died in Shao Yang’s arms, forcing him to acknowledge the feelings he still held for her 1538 1556.

Shao Yang and his companions also suffered poisoning by the Six Harmonies Sect’s Absolute Yang Powder. Lu Feng sought the Pu Yang Flower as an antidote and reassured Shao Yang as he worked through Lei Qiqi’s death and his grievances involving Gongsun Zhe 2029.

Defending Benevolent Heart Academy

In Lu Feng and Old Book’s absence, Shao Yang accepted the Six Harmonies Sect’s challenge on Benevolent Heart Academy’s behalf. Although Ruo Shui was stronger, he chose to fight Cheng Zhishu himself and activated the Returning to Simplicity Array to restrict combat strength to the Five Elements Realm 1027.

The duel tested his Single King Spear against Cheng Zhishu’s Six Harmonies Spear. Shao Yang ultimately won through the sudden spiritual-energy increase supplied by his Plain Heart Ring, although Cheng Zhishu continued to conceal part of his true strength 1778 1794 1803 1807.

Shao Yang later led the students in requesting formal acceptance as Lu Feng’s personal disciples. Lu Feng agreed and conducted a simple ceremony before their planned expedition to the Hundred Valleys Sword Ruins 1813.

Battle Sect

After joining the Battle Sect, Shao Yang defeated three fellow disciples to earn a qualification opportunity. His subsequent seclusion strengthened the quality of his Five Elements Qi without raising his early-stage Earth Soul Realm cultivation 1526 1530.

Chen Yuanqing’s insults against Lu Feng drove Shao Yang to challenge an eighteen-person team. His spear skills dismantled the group’s melee tactics before he faced Chen Yuanqing’s LingYu War Array and its two puppets 256 981 1539.

As his fury intensified, Shao Yang used Reversing Dragon Piercing Army and nearly killed Chen Yuanqing. He halted the final strike after sensing Lu Feng’s deliberately released aura. Chen Yuanqing’s group apologized, but Shao Yang rejected apologies motivated merely by Lu Feng’s connection to Chu Yunjing 653 2239.

His desire to protect Lu Feng could also become self-destructive. News of the forces pursuing his master drove him to rush his cultivation, damaging his battle heart. When a Kill Order was issued against Lu Feng, he asked to accompany Chu Yunjing’s relief force 731 1006.

Personality

Shao Yang initially places great importance on pride, reputation, and winning. Defeat by his younger sister exposes that weakness, while his decision to kneel outside Lu Feng’s classroom marks a willingness to sacrifice personal dignity for his family 130 671 1301.

Betrayal makes him reluctant to rely on others. During the Black Wind Town trial, he initially plans to act alone rather than risk being hurt again. Later, his defensive stand against the Thunder Fire Sect demonstrates genuine trust in Qian Xin and Jun Ziyi 154 565.

His loyalty to Lu Feng is uncompromising. He defends his master even when doing so means confronting numerous opponents, and he refuses to treat social standing as a substitute for judging Lu Feng’s character. That loyalty can overwhelm his judgment, driving both reckless cultivation and near-uncontrolled killing intent 653 731 981.

Shao Yang also takes pleasure in demanding combat.
