Background
Tang Yuan is the son of Tang Xuan and a woman from Beast Valley. His father taught him a body-refinement art, while his mother left behind the Beast Art that became his supplementary cultivation path. Tang Xuan believed the two methods could be made compatible, allowing Tang Yuan to endure and refine beast cores beyond the limits of ordinary cultivators. 487 1096
The experiment came at a cost. Tang Yuan absorbed numerous lower-grade beast cores, leaving conflicting Beast Powers within his body. When he was attacked during the final linking of his seven souls, his spiritual energy ran wild and his right arm permanently beastified. Ashamed of his appearance, he avoided Qiao Xue'er for more than half a year. 1055 1068
Lu Feng later used a Spirit Suppression Array to temporarily restore Tang Yuan's arm by suppressing his Beast Power. Tang Yuan ultimately chose not to abandon his Beast Art, instead seeking a Dragon Core and other exceptional cores to cleanse and stabilize the mixed power within him. 1068 1071 1096
Appearance
Tang Yuan is a heavily built young man with a broad frame, tightly defined muscles, and an openly resolute bearing. His usual expression and hearty smile give him a sunny, straightforward presence despite his intimidating physique. 427 1055
- Exceptionally burly, with explosive physical strength visible even beneath loose robes. 427
- Upright, well-defined features and a resolute Yang-hardness in his demeanor. 1055
- His right arm can become a fur-covered, savage beast limb when his Beast Power destabilizes. 1055
- Full beastification can enlarge him to more than twice his normal size and cover his body in ape-like fur. 266
- His body-refinement markings appear as black patterns over his skin during combat or recovery. 137 489
Personality
Tang Yuan is battle-driven, resilient, and fiercely proud. He dislikes outside interference in his fights, viewing solitary combat as a matter of strength and respect, yet he is not reckless: he studies opponents, deliberately exhausts them, and builds traps through repeated attacks. 1055 211 243
He is deeply loyal to those he considers family. He treats Ruo Shui as a younger sister, supports Lu Feng without hesitation, and is willing to endanger himself to protect companions. His devotion to Qiao Xue'er is equally intense; guilt over avoiding her and determination to rescue her repeatedly shape his choices. 409 1055 1438 2066 2205
Though often direct and boisterous, Tang Yuan is perceptive in battle and quick to comprehend principles behind unfamiliar techniques. He can turn observations—from beast markings, food, enemy techniques, and movement arts—into practical combat methods of his own. 243 1386 1489 1650
Abilities & Skills
Dual Cultivation: Beast Origin Art and Body Refinement
Tang Yuan’s cultivation combines the Beast Origin Art inherited from his mother with the Body Sect’s body-refinement method taught by Tang Xuan. The body-refinement art gives him the endurance needed to contain beast-core power that would overwhelm ordinary cultivators. 1055 1096
- Can refine and employ several distinct Beast Powers rather than relying on a single beast core. 1055 266
- Early, uncontrolled refinement left conflicting Beast Powers within his body and caused his beastified arm. 1055 1068 1096
- His first documented beastification came from a Long-Armed Demonic Ape core, granting ape-like strength and rapid monkey-fist attacks. 266
- Uses the Phantom Shadow Rat’s Shifting Form and Changing Shadow to flash behind opponents. 266
- Uses the Hundred-Legged Spirit Fox’s swift, deceptive footwork even while fully beastified. 266
- Fully integrated a top-tier Five Elements Beast Core in just over a month, an adaptation rate that surprised Lu Feng. 2176
Nine Revolutions Undying Art
Tang Yuan’s primary body-refinement technique, also called the Nine Revolutions Black Markings Art, produces black Undying Markings that reinforce his body, recovery, and endurance. 243 1211
- Reinforces his defense and lets him endure attacks from stronger opponents. 489 1211
- Supports his lightning-based movement arts by preventing his meridians and body from collapsing under the strain. 38
- Greatly increases recovery; when combined with the Black Tortoise Core, he can draw spiritual energy from an area exceeding a thousand meters. 137
- Reached the seventh level of the art, placing him among the Body Sect’s foremost practitioners. 1590
- Activated the art in time to survive an attack from the Blue Armor Centipede. 1412
Black Dragon Core Techniques
The Black Dragon Core is central to Tang Yuan’s offensive Beast Art and gives many of his attacks draconic force, intimidation, and explosive physical power. 944 1387
- Black Dragon’s Roar — A growing Spirit Skill comprehended from the core; its strength rises alongside Tang Yuan’s cultivation. 944 1162
- Dragon Enters Nine Underworlds — Reverses Black Dragon Core power through his primary meridians to accelerate spiritual-qi circulation and physical performance. 38 1403
- Half-Beast Ferocity Transformation — Reached by forcing Dragon Enters Nine Underworlds through eight meridians, producing a wild, vicious battle state. 1403
- Dragon Might — His Black Dragon Core reacts strongly to the Eternal Startled Dragon Step, allowing him to manifest intimidating Dragon Might. 1650
- The core also altered his appetite as his assimilation with its beast nature deepened. 1831
Movement Techniques
Tang Yuan specializes in explosive, lightning-driven bursts of speed rather than sustained conventional movement arts. 234 1403
- Shimmering Steps: Thunder Hidden Dragon Travel — Draws lightning inward to stimulate his meridians and blood vessels, turning him into a streak of thunder-light. 234
- Thunder Hidden Dragon Fury — The second level of Shimmering Steps; pushes spiritual-qi circulation beyond its normal limit at serious physical risk. 38
- Can use restrained lightning to numb an opponent on contact and weaken their defense. 234
- Eternal Startled Dragon Step — Reached the entry level in a short period, adapting the technique to his own meridian strength and Black Dragon Core. 1650
Fist, Palm, and Bone Techniques
Tang Yuan’s combat style is built around adapting Beast Power into direct martial techniques and using repeated exchanges to create openings. 211 1387
- Double Shadow Dragon Fist — Produces a leading dragon-shaped fist force followed by delayed secondary strikes. 234 1387
- By incorporating the Spirit Controlling Heavy Gold Luan’s power, he can turn one punch into three successive dragon-force impacts. 1387
- Splitting Flame Palm — Converts dragon-shaped fist force into a compact, flame-wreathed palm strike. 211
- Bone Removal Technique — Manipulates an opponent into unconsciously completing a self-dislocation; Tang Yuan used it to defeat Black Elephant and later Lei Jian. 211 1131
- Braided Dough Twist Fist — Twists two different fist forces together within his meridians or in midair, creating a spiraling, violent combined attack. 1489 2218
- Black Rune Bell — A defensive technique that protects his exterior against rapid attacks, though it can be strained by repeated internal-impact strikes. 1952
Staff Arts
Tang Yuan is proficient with a staff despite often being underestimated as a purely fist-based fighter. 1384
- Used the Nine-Nine Returning Yin Staff to counter Zuo Fangming’s Staff Shadows and anticipate Flying Serpent Pierces Heart. 1384
- Wielded a staff containing Zhaixin Chan Wood, whose strikes can congeal blood and qi and disrupt spiritual-energy circulation. 137
- Can adapt staff fighting to his Beast Cultivation, including while beastified. 266
Beast Companions
- Grand Yama Demon Lion — Tang Yuan’s battle beast. It can manifest black flames, activate hidden talents, and use Beast Shadow Celestial Phenomenon and Yama Demon Fire. 643 1412 1937
- Silver Moon Demon Bear (Little Silver) — A companion that was separated from Tang Yuan during an encounter with Blood Clan forces; Tang Yuan later searched for it with Ye Fan. 338 409 1419
Equipment
- Zhaixin Chan Wood staff — A long staff whose material disrupts an enemy’s blood, qi, and spiritual-energy circulation on impact. 137
- Azure Dragon Seal — Used to severely injure the Black-Clad Man while Tang Yuan and Lu Feng fought together. 1157
- Storage Ring — Used to carry beast cores, loot, and cultivation resources. 409 1210
Relationships

- Tang Xuan — Father and Tang Manor’s master. He taught Tang Yuan body refinement, regrets the flawed handling of Tang Yuan’s Beast Art, and hopes a powerful beast core can correct his son’s path. 1071 1096
- Qiao Xue'er — Tang Yuan’s beloved. His guilt over avoiding her follows his beastification, and he remains determined to rescue her after learning that she has become a Soul Spirit under another’s control. 1055 2205
- Ruo Shui — Treated by Tang Yuan as a younger sister. He once promised to protect her, while she later solemnly promised to protect him in return. 409 1156

Beast Valley Recognition Trials
Tang Yuan undertook Beast Valley’s trials to win recognition, retrieve his father, and ease the long-standing conflict between the Body Sect and Beast Valley. He fought six opponents across separate terrain zones, used strategy to defeat Black Elephant and Lei Hu, overcame Li Shixin and Zuo Fangming, and finally endured a brutal duel with Zhan Ziyuan. 526 581 1384 1387 1403 1406

Pursuit of Stronger Beast Cores

When Lu Feng’s group was trapped by an array, Tang Yuan volunteered to enter first and create an opening for the others. He concealed the extent of the danger afterward so Lu Feng would not feel indebted, surviving only because he broke through in his body-refinement cultivation. 2066
