Background / History
Hongjun and Yang Mei entered the war against Luo Hou and Shen Ni only after the alliance had been driven into despair. Their timely intervention won the gratitude and recognition of Hong Huang’s living beings, an outcome Hongjun deliberately sought to accumulate the great momentum needed to prove the Dao 36.
After the war, Hongjun and Yang Mei became leaders of the unified force formed from the dissolved alliances and sacred dynasties. Rather than manage its affairs, both devoted themselves to cultivation after witnessing the Main Body’s strength 38.
Following millions of years of cultivation, Hongjun attained the Dao. Vast auspicious phenomena spread from Kunlun Mountain, after which he established Purple Heaven Palace in the Chaos and summoned cultivators to hear his teachings 75.
Hongjun later joined forces with Yang Mei to break Luo Hou’s Immortal Slaying Sword Formation. Hongjun employed the Three Corpses Divine Ability to create three clones, while Yang Mei restrained Luo Hou; together they broke the formation and sealed Luo Hou’s demonic body, though Luo Hou’s consciousness escaped 68.
Appearance
Hongjun’s appearance changes drastically as his connection to the Heavenly Dao deepens.
- Initially presents himself as an ethereal, lofty Daoist in Purple Heaven Palace 111.
- During partial Heavenly Dao fusion, develops cyan scales, fangs, bone spurs, tentacles, and a beast-like half-face 209 230 256.
- After fully merging his soul with the Heavenly Dao, his white hair turns black, his tentacles vanish, and ancient armor-like scales cover his body; he becomes a majestic, cold middle-aged man 261.
Personality
Hongjun is calculating, ambitious, and intensely concerned with securing power over the Primordial World. His early efforts to earn the recognition of all beings were not purely altruistic: they were part of his pursuit of the great momentum required to prove the Dao 36.
He can restore a composed, lofty façade even after losing control, but his conflicts with the Main Body expose resentment, fear, and desperation. After being defeated, he resolved that no one would stop his path to the Great Dao, then immediately sought Yang Mei as a potential ally 111.
His pursuit of strength grows increasingly ruthless. He sealed the four sacred beasts despite Heavenly Dao backlash, attempted to destabilize the Human Race’s luck to create an opening against the Heavenly Dao, and drained the life force of nearly a hundred billion beings for a Vast King leg bone 115 181 242.
