Background and History

Wu Shentong inherited leadership of Shanhetal from his master. One hundred and thirty years before the Dragon Sleep Valley campaign, he defeated the demons of Ice Soul Valley and seized the valley from the Snow Demon Queen. Under his leadership, Shanhetal strengthened the Imperial Court’s position in Qingzhou and developed forces feared by both demonic and righteous factions 232 234.

He enters Lu Yang’s story during the crisis in Wanlin Prefecture. Wu Shentong defeats Li Ciyou, saving Lu Yang’s life, then heals the unconscious Huang Jiang. He recruits Lu Yang into Shanhetal but requires him to pass its assessment without favoritism 194 195 196 197.

He recognizes talent in both Lu Yang and Huang Jiang, while respecting Huang Jiang’s decision to honor his oath rather than join Shanhetal 195 196.

He plans boldly but makes contingencies. Before the attack on Dragon Sleep Valley, he anticipates danger, discusses the reliability of other sects with Xingyanzi, and trusts Lu Yang to judge how best to protect Shanhetal’s people. He is also willing to surrender his title as Qingzhou’s strongest if a successor can take over his responsibilities 234 235 384.
