History

Appeals for Aid

As demon activity worsened around Black Mountain County, County Magistrate Du Guinian sent seven messengers to Wanlin Prefecture seeking assistance. All seven were killed, and their heads were displayed outside the city gate; the danger of traveling to the prefecture was attributed to Lord Black Mountain 46.

Following Lu Yang's killing of Lord Black Mountain, Wanlin Prefecture promoted him to Demon Extermination Guard, drawing him from Black Mountain County into the prefectural system 53.

Beast Tide

Cen Qingqing, the Jade-Eyed Snake Demoness, led a massive demon and monster-beast tide against Wanlin Prefecture. The city defenses held, while the Guard Department repelled infiltrators and the prefecture's defenders fought under heavy pressure 71.

The prefectural government responded with organized emergency measures:

• Demon corpses were processed into preserved food supplies in anticipation of shortages 72.
• Rumor-spreaders and merchants who hoarded goods or maliciously inflated prices were suppressed; some were executed 72.
• Curfews and internal patrols were strengthened, making the ordinarily bustling city noticeably quieter 72.
• Fallen Demon Extermination personnel were returned to their department for final inspection by Hao Yan 72.

Despite these measures, the Beast Tide continued to inflict daily casualties among prefectural soldiers and Guard Department martial artists 79.

Prison Breach

During the Beast Tide, demons and monsters breached the Heavenly Prison Department's Prison Suppressing Tower. The Heavenly Prison Department and City Lord's Mansion jointly suppressed the disturbance, killing several hundred escapees at great cost. Two Grandmaster Realm prisoners—the Blood Yama Demon and Bone Arhat—escaped from the tower's fourth level 79.

Niangniang Rong's Attack

Niangniang Rong later attacked Wanlin Prefecture City with the high-grade Saint Weapon Soul Severing Spear, breaking the city's defensive formation and using the Yellow Springs Soul Seizing Great Method to seize human souls 177.

Her assault targeted the departments guarding portions of Old Ancestor Yellow Springs' body:

• She broke through the Demon Slaying Department's earth-and-stone fortress and destroyed a battle-elephant formation formed by Chen Qingzhi and the Demon Slayer Envoys 178.
• She threatened the Heavenly Prison Department, while Cen Qingqing simultaneously attacked it in an attempt to release its imprisoned demons and monsters 180.
• Huang Jiang's breakthrough to Supreme Great Grandmaster initially put Niangniang Rong at a disadvantage, but she also broke through and merged with her massive true body, plunging the prefecture into renewed crisis 184.

• Wanlin Prefecture City has a population in the millions and cannot be allowed to remain isolated by the Demon Race for an extended period 165.
• The Qingmang Mountain Range is the prefecture's only trade route to northern cities; reopening it requires clearing the range of demon forces 165.
