Background

After Tang San left Nuoding City, Yu Xiaogang followed him and Xiao Wu to Suotuo City. He presented this as concern for his disciple, but had also exhausted his welcome after six years of free meals and lodging at the Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy. He chose Shrek Academy in hopes of receiving support from his old friend, Flender. 6

Upon arriving, Flender deceived Yu into posing unclothed for a painting and made him an unwitting guarantor for a loan secured against Shrek Academy’s land deed. Yu reacted with outrage when he learned that he could be held responsible if Flender failed to repay the debt. 6

His cultivation later reached level 30 through an unconventional Mimetic Cultivation Environment: a toilet. Shen He subsequently brought him to the Star Dou Great Forest, where Yu obtained his third Soul Ring from the Thousand-Year Soul Devouring Charm Snake. 20 31

Yu is intensely concerned with prestige, recognition, and preserving face. After he and Tang San were ridiculed at the Great Soul Arena, he sought to restore their reputations by producing a universal training method, remaining arrogant even after Shen He rejected it as impractical. 41

He is opportunistic and manipulative, readily promoting Tang San’s accomplishments while omitting inconvenient details. He attempted to redirect Bibi Dong’s interest in Shen He toward Tang San, presenting only the disciple’s favorable qualities. 39
