Power Progression

| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Second Lieutenant trainee | 44 | Introduced as a ranked student in the Marine Headquarters Training Camp and an existing Cage-Cage Fruit user. |
| Navy Headquarters Captain | 79 | Has graduated from the Training Camp. Appointed vice-captain of the Alabasta mission’s warship, serving directly beneath Leiyin and above more than five hundred personnel. |
| Vice Captain | 94 | Reported as a promotion following the successful Alabasta investigation. Leiyin’s report credits Hina and Kraven for their contributions. This rank is also used for her later at Headquarters 162. |
| Captain, East Blue posting | 198 | Garp reports her transfer to the East Blue, where she works alongside Smoker. This is a later posting, not an explicitly documented power increase. |
- Rank terminology varies: Hina is called a Headquarters Captain in Chapter 133, but a Vice Captain in Chapter 162. The text does not explain the discrepancy 133 162.
Appearance
Hina has pink hair, expressive eyes, red lips, and a curvy figure. Her appearance attracts considerable attention among the Training Camp’s students and Navy personnel 44 47 79.
- Training attire: A Marine uniform during her time as a trainee 44.
- Officer attire: A pink uniform beneath a white “Justice” cloak 79.
- Black gloves: Worn when defending the warship against the Sea Centipede 79.
- Civilian clothing: Deliberately dresses up before inviting Leiyin to a private dinner 93.
- Cigarette: Frequently seen smoking, including while watching the Ranking Assessment 51 59 84.
Personality
Hina is proud, competitive, and initially judgmental about military rank. She refuses to stand beside Leiyin because he is a Private and dismisses reports that he defeated Beligood. Witnessing his advanced Iron Body Fist forces her to reconsider that judgment 44 47 48.
She publicly claims that strength matters more than beauty, but privately takes great care over her appearance. Ain’s greater popularity and consistently higher assessment placement bother her; she resolves to surpass Ain in both strength and looks 47 51.
Her pride also complicates her romantic feelings. Hina denies liking Leiyin even while becoming jealous of Verdan, then gradually pursues him more openly. Her attempts range from pretending to have a twisted ankle to arranging dinner alone with him and confessing her feelings 72 73 93 119.
Despite her sharp temper, she shows genuine concern for Leiyin’s safety. After hearing about his battles in the West Blue, she asks whether he was injured and warns him about the powerful pirates operating there 123.
Abilities & Skills
Cage-Cage Fruit
Hina’s Paramecia ability produces black, iron-like restraints and projectiles. She uses it both to imprison opponents and to attack them directly 52 74 79.
- Cage-Cage: Extends fence-like iron branches from her arms to surround Leiyin. The move lets her escape while his Kusanagi Sword is at her neck, but he shatters the cage by circulating his chakra 52.
- Kamisari: Creates a black cage around a target. Kaido breaks it by bracing his limbs; an agile Iron-backed Wolf escapes before the cage closes 66 74.
- Black Spear Formation: Launches multiple thick black spears from her body. She uses the technique to kill an Iron-backed Wolf and sever several legs from a Sea Centipede 74 79.
- Durability limit: Her restraints cannot hold either Leiyin or Kaido 52 66.
- Penetration limit: Against the Sea Centipede, some spears sever its legs, while others merely mark its body or miss entirely 79.
Swordsmanship
Hina receives swordsmanship instruction under Momousagi and uses a sword in sparring 52.
- Charges Leiyin with a direct slash during their assigned practice match 52.
- Loses that match in one move when Leiyin dodges and strikes her back with his scabbard 52.
- Challenges him again the following day, but is subdued by his Lion Dance and Kusanagi Sword before resorting to her Devil Fruit 52.
Combat Performance
- Iron-backed Wolf, Lv. 28: Defeats it with Black Spear Formation after her cage attempt fails. The narration equates its danger level to approximately 2,800 Power Level and describes the victory as strenuous for her 74.
- Sea Centipede, Lv. 230: Injures it while defending the warship, but cannot stop its ensuing rampage with her available techniques 79.
- Kaido: Attempts to restrain him, but he immediately breaks free and sends her flying. Leiyin catches her before she falls to her death 66.

Background / History
Training Camp
Hina is already a Second Lieutenant trainee when Leiyin arrives at Marine Headquarters. Garp has described her as the Training Camp’s belle and jokingly offered to introduce her as Leiyin’s girlfriend. Their actual first encounter is unfriendly: she looks down on his Private rank and prevents him from standing beside her 42 44.
Leiyin’s victories gradually undermine her assumptions. After seeing his advanced Rokushiki, she begins watching him closely. Two defeats in sparring leave her humiliated and suspicious of his identity. Unlike most trainees, she subsequently believes that his victory over Ain was earned rather than deliberately conceded 48 52 54.
After Leiyin defeats Smoker, Hina shyly congratulates him. Garp’s subsequent matchmaking causes a misunderstanding, and she angrily accuses Leiyin of playing with her feelings. During Kaido’s attack on the trainees, Leiyin rescues her after her cage fails, prompting a grateful, embarrassed response 60 66.
Annemoi Island Assessment
Jealous of Verdan’s initiative, Hina abandons some of her aloofness during the practical assessment. She pretends to twist her ankle and asks Leiyin to carry her, but an approaching Iron-backed Wolf interrupts the attempt 72 73.
Hina defeats the wolf herself. Leiyin explains that he stayed out of the fight because she could win and deserved the assessment points. When thirty more wolves attack, he incapacitates them with Conqueror’s Haki, which also leaves Hina briefly dizzy. Her friends and admirers arrive shortly afterward 74.
Her jealousy resurfaces at the assessment’s end when Leiyin carries the injured Verdan to the infirmary. Hina questions their relationship, only for Leiyin to dismiss the interrogation 77.
Alabasta Investigation
Following graduation, Hina becomes Leiyin’s deputy for the investigation into Alabasta’s lack of rain. She is privately delighted by both the responsibility and the opportunity to spend time with him 79.
During the voyage, she helps defend their ship against a Sea Centipede. In planning their investigation, she favors meeting King Cobra first, while Leiyin chooses to head directly to Rain Country. She also identifies Ace when he unexpectedly appears near the pursuing Baroque Works ships 79 84.
After the successful mission, Hina invites Leiyin to dinner alone in her quarters. She becomes drunk, confesses her feelings, and attempts to seduce him; he instead puts her to bed, cleans the table, and leaves. The following morning, she questions him about what happened and privately regrets his restraint. Leiyin credits her contribution in his report, and she receives a promotion 93 94.
Later Service
Hina continues pursuing Leiyin while carrying out Headquarters assignments against smaller pirates. She visits before his West Blue departure, expresses concern over his battles, and remains upset by his apparent interest in Verdan 119 123 133.
Verdan’s relationship with Yuchimura renews Hina’s hopes, but Leiyin still avoids returning her feelings. When she tearfully complains that his missions leave them no time together, he withdraws, already considering himself committed to Baby-5 162 170.
Garp later reports that Hina has transferred to the East Blue as a Navy Captain, working alongside Smoker, and that he has heard they are now together. Leiyin responds with relief and congratulations 198.
