Xuan Yin was an Innate Human who shared in Human Dao Merit and Destiny through his participation in matters benefiting the Human Race. After receiving the Tai Xiao Primordial Origin from Sect Master Tongtian, he became Tongtian's disciple and established a Cave Abode at the foot of Upper Clarity Peak to remain close to the Sage's teachings 2 3.

Rather than seize every available opportunity, Xuan Yin initially prioritized Tongtian's sermon. The teachings rapidly refined his Heavenly Immortal Dao Fruit and granted him several Divine Ability Methods 3. He also cultivated ties with senior disciples including Duobao Daoist, Jin Ling, Zhao Gongming, Yunxiao, Wu Dang, Gui Ling, Qiongxiao, and Bixiao, relying on their greater experience to answer his doubts 4.

His pursuit of the Path of the Earth Immortal began with Kirin Cliff, the transformed body of First Kirin. Xuan Yin initially refused First Kirin's offer because the associated karmic debt was too great, but later signed a Heavenly Dao Divine Contract, obtained Kirin Cliff, and received permission from Tongtian to cultivate both the Heavenly Immortal and Earth Immortal paths 6 8.
