Background / History

Yu Xiaogang is the son of Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan leader Yu Yuanzhen. Born with only half a level of Innate Soul Power, he remained unable to reach level 30 despite his clan background; this inadequacy became the source of his determination to prove that he was not a “waste.” 69 138

While still connected to the clan, Yu Xiaogang released information it had painstakingly collected. The resulting disgrace and his poor cultivation aptitude led to his expulsion. He left the clan vowing to establish his worth through knowledge of martial souls. 70

Seeking more material than he could acquire as a Soul Grand Master, Yu Xiaogang targeted Bibi Dong, then the Pope's highly favored disciple. He investigated her habits, engineered meetings, and entered a relationship with her in order to gain access to the Martial Soul Hall library. There, he copied classics, compiled martial soul knowledge into volumes, sold them, and earned the title “Master.” 70 71

Yu Xiaogang later joined Flender and Liu Erlong in a three-person team. After learning that Liu Erlong was his cousin and discovering that the three could form a Trinity Martial Soul Fusion Skill, he deliberately pursued her to secure a primary role in the fusion. His deception continued for roughly twenty years. 71 72

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is intensely preoccupied with recognition. He regards his theoretical knowledge as the means by which he can surpass the limitations of his cultivation talent, prove himself to his former clan, and preserve his name for later generations. His ambition is accompanied by opportunism. When the Heavenly Screen first appears, Yu Xiaogang is treated by his companions as their most knowledgeable source, but admits that he knows nothing about it. He begins recording every revelation in hopes that his scholarship will one day validate him. 3 11 15

He is visibly frightened by the Evil Eye Tyrant Overlord, requiring Tang San's support, yet remains focused on gathering information from the Screen. 10 11

Tang San's Mentor

Yu Xiaogang encourages Tang San's ambitions and urges him not to despair after witnessing Morax's overwhelming strength. Privately, he believes that even Tang San's Twin Martial Souls cannot bridge that gap. 25

He is also unsettled when Tang San's future Soul Ring configuration contradicts the theories he had developed. 26

Positive Energy Ranking and Exposure

Yu Xiaogang's tenth-place ranking initially convinces him that the Sky Screen has recognized his wisdom. The ensuing footage instead reveals his expulsion, his calculated approach to Bibi Dong, and his use of Liu Erlong for the Trinity Martial Soul Fusion Skill. 69 70 71

The revelations cost him the trust of Flender and Liu Erlong. Flender beats him, while Liu Erlong consumes the Purple Ganoderma that could have enabled his breakthrough to level 30. 72

Captivity and Retribution

After the Shrek group severely injures Yu Xiaogang, Bibi Dong finds him alive and orders that he be healed—not forgiven—so she can personally torture him. Liu Erlong joins her after both women recognize that Yu Xiaogang manipulated them. 96
