Background / History
The Sun Moon Empire was one of the four major states of the Douluo Continent and a longstanding rival of Shrek Academy and the three original Douluo nations. Its strength rested on advanced Soul Tool technology, allowing it to contend with the continent despite a comparative shortage of traditional high-level Soul Masters. 238 265
Decades before the main events, a rebellion overthrew the former Sun Moon ruling dynasty. The new emperor purged the previous emperor's bloodline and supporters; Prince Xu He escaped, was later adopted by Fan Yu, and became He Caitou. 131 Kong Deming later revealed that the old emperor had used the Holy Spirit Cult's power during this purge, devastating the imperial bloodline. 241
The empire's connection with Evil Soul Masters was initially concealed. The Holy Spirit Cult operated primarily within Sun Moon territory, maintained major underground operations in Mingdu, and was believed to enjoy protection or deliberate tolerance from imperial authorities. 176 190 199 By the time of the continental tournament, the empire openly recognized the Holy Spirit Cult as its state religion and appointed its leader, Zhong Li Wu, as Imperial Advisor. 210 231
Under Xu Tianran, the empire prepared to use the tournament as a trap: Soul Engineer legions sealed the borders so participating sects, academies, and elites could be captured or controlled before a planned war against the three original nations. 238 Lin Yi later exposed and defeated the empire's forces around Mingdu, including the Evil Lord Soul Engineer Regiment and a Soul Tool Emplacement. 246 247 248
Xu Tianran was ultimately killed when Life Demon fused with and possessed his body during a supposed restoration of the emperor's limbs. Life Demon then governed through Xu Tianran's identity, while Lin Yi remained the true power behind the arrangement. 261
The empire subsequently defeated the three original Douluo kingdoms in the Four Kingdoms War, chiefly through Kong Deming's ultimate-level combat power. The defeated states became Sun Moon vassals. 266 Immediately afterward, “Xu Tianran” abdicated and nominated Lin Yi as ruler of the unified realm, ending the Sun Moon Empire's independent sovereignty. 267
Government and Political Structure
- Imperial family — The empire was ruled by the Sun Moon Imperial Family, whose symbol was the Purple Blazing Sky Dragon. 209
- Xu Tianran — Regent Prince and later emperor; physically impaired and unable to produce heirs before his death and possession by Life Demon. 232 261
- Ju Zi — Xu Tianran's consort and later empress; held military-command talent but lost political leverage as Life Demon improved Xu Tianran's public reputation and centralized control. 259 264
- Kong Deming — Imperial ancestor, guardian of the imperial family, foremost Level 9 Soul Engineer, and the empire's decisive strategic asset. 240 265
- Holy Spirit Cult — Functioned as the state religion and supplied high-end combat power, but was kept outside Sun Moon's true core of political authority. 210 264
- Life Demon — Publicly awarded a dukedom and promised future roles as imperial tutor and Imperial Advisor after “healing” Xu Tianran; secretly controlled the emperor's body and the empire itself. 261
Soul Tool Technology
The Sun Moon Empire possessed the continent's most advanced Soul Tool industry. Before Lin Qingxuan's advancement became known publicly, it was regarded as the only force capable of producing Rank 9 Soul Tools. 231
- Soul Engineer culture — Flying Soul Tools were common transportation for nobles and capable Soul Masters; official roads were mainly used by commoners and lower-level Soul Masters unable to fly. 197
- High-level Soul Engineers — Level 8 Soul Engineers were treated as pillars of the empire and were generally assigned to Mingdu's major academies, Mingdetang, or elite legions rather than provincial regions. 210
- Titled Douluo forces — The empire had few purely martial Titled Douluo; most were Soul Engineers, and more than seventy percent were Level 9 Soul Engineers. 265
- Tournament prizes — It offered a Rank 9 Soul Tool to champions, Rank 8 to runners-up, and Rank 7 to third place, drawing 167 qualifying teams to its tournament. 231
- Mingdetang — A major Soul Tool institution led by Jing Hongchen, publicly acknowledged as the empire's strongest expert before Kong Deming revealed his full strength. 265 266
Military
| Formation / Asset | Known composition or function |
|---|---|
| Ordinary Soul Engineer Regiments | The empire had six ordinary regiments. Each contained 500 members with at least two rings and standard Soul Tools; one regiment's combat power rivaled tens of thousands of ordinary troops. 246 |
| Hands of National Defense | Five elite Soul Engineer Regiments collectively known as Beast King-level regiments because of their Fierce Beast-based names. 246 |
| Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Regiment | Directly obeyed the emperor. Its lowest-ranked members were Soul Kings; it had 300 members, three Level 9 Soul Engineer commanders/deputies, and the empire's finest Soul Tool armaments. 246 |
| Evil Lord Soul Engineer Regiment | A Beast King-level regiment commanded by Wang Yiheng, the Level 9 Soul Engineer known as Mad Bull. It was defeated and captured by Lin Yi outside Mingdu. 246 247 |
| Other Beast King-level regiments | Included the Emperor Dragon, Terrorclaw, and Fire Phoenix regiments; the Emperor Dragon regiment was named for the imperial family's Purple Blazing Sky Dragon Martial Soul. 246 |
| Soul Tool Emplacements | Large defensive positions capable of fielding thousands of Soul Engineers, elite regiments, Level 9 Soul Engineers, and Level 9 Fixed Soul Cannon Shells. 246 |
| Level 9 Fixed Soul Cannon Shells | Strategic weapons deployed during Mingdu's lockdown; the eastern defensive line alone held no fewer than five. 246 |
Kong Deming
Kong Deming was the empire's hidden guardian and its most important individual military asset.
- Known as the Silver Moon Douluo, he was the foremost Level 9 Soul Engineer and was regarded as the person closest to the legendary Level 10 Soul Engineer realm. 240
- Nearly every contemporary Level 9 Soul Engineer had received his guidance. 240
- Before the Four Kingdoms War, he was a Rank 94 Soul Master capable of using Soul Tools to contend with Limit Douluo Ye Xishui without falling into disadvantage. 241 265
- He later became a Rank 95 Super Douluo, forged a Natal Soul Tool by fusing Soul Tools with his Martial Soul, and advanced to Level 10 Soul Engineer status with ultimate-level combat power. 266
- His victory over the Rank 97 Heavenly Sun Douluo secured the Sun Moon Empire's military advantage in the Four Kingdoms War. 266
Relations
- Holy Spirit Cult — Covert ally and later state religion; the partnership gave the empire high-end combat power while the cult sought casualties, souls, and flesh from a continental war. Their alliance collapsed after Life Demon consolidated control of the empire. 210 231 273
- Shrek Academy — Historic rival and major deterrent. The empire repeatedly tested whether Shrek would intervene in its expansion, while Lin Yi eventually used the empire's unification campaign to seize continental authority. 254 267
- Star Luo Empire — Rival state targeted through political and economic maneuvering, including the Starlight Auction House's attempt to extract high-level Soul Tools from Sun Moon representatives. 141
- Heaven Dou Empire and Dou Ling Empire — Opponents in the Four Kingdoms War; both became vassal states after the Sun Moon Empire's victory. 266
- Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy — The empire's premier academy and recurring tournament representative; its teams included Xiao Hongchen, Meng Hongchen, and Ma Rulong. 150 152 237
- Mingdetang — Major Soul Tool institution led by Jing Hongchen and a foundation of the empire's technical strength. 265 266
Major Arcs
Alliance with the Holy Spirit Cult
The Holy Spirit Cult's large-scale presence in Sun Moon territory raised suspicions that the imperial family either shielded or cooperated with Evil Soul Masters. 176 190 The relationship eventually became public when the cult was named the state religion and Zhong Li Wu became Imperial Advisor. 210 231
All-Continent Tournament and Mingdu Lockdown
The empire hosted a grand tournament to attract sects and academies with high-level Soul Tool rewards. 231 Behind the event, it intended to imprison or control participants and use its sealed borders and Soul Engineer forces to prepare for war. 238
Attempt to Detain Shrek
When Lin Yi's group attempted to leave Mingdu, the empire deployed Soul Tool Emplacements, Beast King-level regiments, Level 9 Fixed Soul Cannon Shells, and top combatants to stop them. 246 Lin Yi defeated Wang Yiheng's regiment and issued a warning to the empire after overpowering its assembled forces. 247 248
Life Demon's Seizure of the Throne
Life Demon exploited Xu Tianran's desire to restore his limbs, fused with him during the procedure, and assumed control of his body. 259 261 Kong Deming accepted the arrangement in the interest of stability, leaving Life Demon as the empire's hidden master. 261
Four Kingdoms Unification
Under Life Demon's administration, the empire proposed determining continental ownership through contests rather than immediate total war, with Shrek as arbitrator. 264 266 Kong Deming's breakthrough and ultimate-level combat power led to victory over the three kingdoms, which agreed to become vassal states. 266
Abdication and Dissolution
After unification, “Xu Tianran” abdicated and nominated Lin Yi as ruler of all four kingdoms. 267 Lin Yi refined the four imperial seals into the Realm Seal and later organized the former states as four provinces of the Justice Empire. 268 275
