Li Changle sat before his computer, typing away furiously. After two hours of battle, he had drafted the basic outline and character list for the first installment of Legend of Sword and Fairy.
After working with complete focus for two hours, Li Changle felt like he had found that familiar work rhythm again. He shuddered.
Working for someone else was impossible. There was no way he would work for someone else in this lifetime.
He could not push himself this hard. There was no need.
Out of habit, Li Changle picked up the cigarette pack beside him, intending to light one up.
Finding it completely empty, he shook his head and got up, planning to head downstairs to the convenience store for a pack.
The original Li Changle did not smoke, but the Li Changle who had transmigrated over had not kicked the habit. Especially when he was writing, he could not find inspiration without a cigarette.
When he opened the door, he saw a breathtakingly beautiful woman sitting helplessly on the stairs, crying pitifully.
Li Changle felt a little awkward.
What was he supposed to do?
Kind-hearted Li Changle braced himself and asked the tearful woman across from him,
"Um, are you okay?"
Wang Siyi had clearly seen Li Changle as well. She had never expected anyone to still be up and about at this hour.
Wasn't it embarrassing for someone to see her like this?
And this guy was the one who had saved her before. Wang Siyi lowered her head, her face and neck flushed bright red with embarrassment.
Seeing that the woman across from him did not speak, Li Changle felt even more awkward and took another look at Wang Siyi.
She was very beautiful. Wait, why did her eyes and face look so familiar?
"You are..."
Li Changle remembered. Wasn't this the Rich Woman he had saved?
"I... I forgot my keys..."
Although Wang Siyi looked like she wanted to disappear on the spot, she still answered Li Changle's question.
Li Changle was speechless. She looked so beautiful, but why did she seem a little slow?
"How about... you stay in my apartment? It is your apartment anyway..."
Li Changle felt that leaving her on the stairs all night was obviously unreasonable, so he simply asked whether she wanted to stay in his apartment.
There were plenty of rooms and lots of space. Besides, he had always stayed in the second bedroom, while the master bedroom had been left untouched.
Wang Siyi was clearly still conflicted. In all her life, aside from family members, she had never lived under the same roof as another man.
But he had saved her before. He was not a bad person, so it should be fine.
In the end, she nodded. As she tried to stand up, she realized that squatting there for too long had left her a little lightheaded. Her vision went dark and she nearly fell, but Li Changle reacted quickly and caught Wang Siyi by the hand.
Li Changle's first thought when he held Wang Siyi was that her arm was so slender, and her skin was so soft and smooth. Skin like congealed cream must have been describing a woman as stunningly beautiful as the one before him.
After taking a moment to recover, Wang Siyi finally came back to her senses. Li Changle quickly let go and helped carry her luggage into the apartment.
Wang Siyi followed behind him in silence. Seeing that the layout of the apartment had not changed at all and that everything was spotlessly clean, she relaxed. This person really cared about cleanliness.
"You can stay in the master bedroom for now. I haven't touched anything in there..."
Li Changle opened the master bedroom door, then turned back to Wang Siyi as he spoke.
Wang Siyi nodded without saying anything and was about to enter. After thinking for a moment, she softly said to Li Changle before closing the door,
"Thank you..."
Then the door shut before Li Changle could even say it was nothing.
Li Changle awkwardly scratched his head. He had failed to buy cigarettes, but somehow picked up a Rich Woman instead.
Still, not smoking was fine. After all, there was a girl here now, and no woman probably liked the smell of secondhand smoke.
He was hungry, though. Li Changle decided to cook a bowl of noodles for a late-night snack. He had saved plenty of broth from the Chicken Soup he had made that evening, so it would be perfect for cooking noodles.
He did not know whether that woman would eat any, so he simply made enough for two.
Come to think of it, he was living in her apartment. Making her a bowl of noodles was not too much, was it?
They were even living under the same roof tonight, yet he did not know her name.
This was ridiculous. He would ask whether she wanted noodles later, then ask her name while he was at it.
After all, Li Changle did not know what he should call her.
The noodles were soon ready. Looking at the beautifully colored Chicken Soup Noodles before him, each bowl with a green vegetable draped across it, they made quite the Green Dragon Crossing the River. Li Changle nodded in satisfaction.
He walked to the master bedroom door and hesitated. Just as he was about to knock, the door suddenly opened on its own.
Wang Siyi looked at Li Changle, who stood frozen at the door with one hand raised, and found it a little strange.
"Um, I made some noodles. Do you want some..."
Wang Siyi wanted to refuse, but then she saw the two bowls of noodles on the table, which looked delicious at first glance.
She had not eaten anything since flying from Shanghai to Yangcheng that afternoon. She was genuinely hungry, but eating this late would make her gain weight.
In the end, hunger defeated reason. She nodded and walked to the dining table, picked up her chopsticks, and began eating. After one bite, she realized that the noodles were truly delicious.
The noodles were springy rather than mushy, smooth and refreshing. Paired with the rich, fragrant Chicken Soup, they were delicious.
Li Changle watched the beautiful woman seriously slurp her noodles with satisfaction. Having someone else appreciate his cooking was clearly more fulfilling than appreciating it himself.
Especially when that someone was a beauty. This was what it meant for beauty to be a feast for the eyes. Li Changle quickly finished the fruits of his own labor as well.
"Um. What's your name? I still don't know your name. What should I call you?"
Wang Siyi froze for a moment. She was not wearing a mask, and he still had not recognized her? She was not yet an A-list singer, but she was not unknown either.
Still, it was better that he had not recognized her. Thinking about the humiliating scene on the stairs earlier, Wang Siyi let out a breath of relief.
"Wang Siyi."
Wang Siyi simply gave her name. Li Changle thought it sounded beautiful; her name was as lovely as her appearance.
"That's a beautiful name. Then let me introduce myself properly. My name is Li Changle."
Li Changle gave a serious introduction, but what he did not know was that Wang Siyi already knew his name.
Back at the hospital, Wang Siyi had been the one to take him there, so she knew his basic information.
But Wang Siyi had no intention of mentioning it. She nodded to indicate that she knew, said nothing more, and lifted her bowl to drink the soup clean.
Looking at the empty bowl, Wang Siyi blushed slightly. She had gotten a little carried away with her appetite.
But Li Changle was quite pleased by Wang Siyi's actions. He felt that she was showing respect for the results of his labor.
His impression of Wang Siyi immediately rose another notch.
A Rich Woman, gorgeous as a flower, polite, thoughtful, and grateful for kindness. Such a wonderful woman—he just did not know which bastard would get lucky with her someday.
Wang Siyi hurried back to the master bedroom without lifting her head and slammed the door shut with a bang.
Li Changle touched his nose, cleared the bowls and chopsticks from the table, then returned to his room to continue refining the outline for Legend of Sword and Fairy.
After eating and drinking his fill, Li Changle felt inspiration surge forth like a fountain, impossible to stop.
He simply wrote out the opening as well. After revising it for an hour, it was nearly one in the morning, and Li Changle hurriedly stopped.
He had actually worked until one in the morning. That would not do. He had never intended to work himself to the bone in this life. Whatever 996 blessings or 007 fortunes people talked about had nothing to do with him.
As he had said before, working for someone else was impossible.
He had worked himself to death in his previous life. There was no way he would go through that again. He got up, went to the bathroom, washed up briefly, and went straight to bed.
Wang Siyi sat in the master bedroom, slightly dazed. Today's events felt a little like a dream. Somehow, she had ended up living in the same apartment as a man she barely knew.
Although he had saved her, they had barely spoken. All she knew was that he was a university graduate who had not found a job yet.
To repay him, she had simply given him an apartment to live in, easing the pressure of finding work.
But from the time he had stepped forward to save her until today, when he had helped her out of the predicament of having nowhere to go,
it was obvious that he was a warmhearted person. He was polite too. Aside from asking her name,
he had not pried into anything about her. It was clear that he did not have any improper thoughts toward her.
He was a good person.
That was Li Changle's first impression in Wang Siyi's heart.
The corners of her lovely lips curled upward slightly as she fell asleep under a heavy wave of drowsiness. Even in sleep, that faint smile did not fade.
Eight in the morning.
Li Changle dreamed that he had not died from overwork and transmigrated at all. Instead, he had merely slept one night at the company, gotten up at eight the next morning, and continued working on the proposal.
Li Changle had even started eating and sleeping at the company for the sake of that proposal. After keeping it up for a week, he had finally finalized it.
Then the boss took one look, tossed the proposal aside, and yelled at him, "What kind of garbage proposal is this? Redo it."
The fierce shout jolted Li Changle awake. He sat up and looked around the room he had lived in for two months, finally breathing a sigh of relief.
"So it was just a dream. Scared the hell out of me."
"But why the hell did that dream feel so real? I must have gotten too absorbed in work last night."
Li Changle fell into deep thought.
He could not work himself so hard in the future. He felt like he had developed some kind of illness, the kind where he broke down the moment he started working. Li Changle called it Work Phobia.
"Good thing it was only a dream."
Li Changle sighed in relief. He thought his current life was wonderful and had no desire to lose it and return to Earth to continue being a workhorse for capitalism.
He had an apartment where he did not need to pay rent, and the vast number of novels in his mind meant he would not have to worry about making a living.
Once he saved enough money, he would buy his own apartment and move out. He could not freeload forever, after all. Li Changle had some pride.
Then he would find a girlfriend, get married, have children, and live out the rest of his life peacefully and comfortably. How wonderful would that be?
"Today is another energetic day. Keep it up!"
He gave himself a pep talk in bed, then got up to wash.
