Background / History

Fang Yuan lived in seclusion in Secluded Valley on Qingling Mountain. At eighteen, he possessed an unusually mature mind because he had repeatedly experienced entire lives in dream worlds since childhood. He alone could see an attribute panel that recorded his cultivation, skills, and specialties. 2

His engagement to Lin Leyue was dissolved after she joined the Gui Ling Sect and needed to marry a man with a Pure Yin Constitution for her lineage. Fang Yuan calmly returned the marriage contract and accepted Crimson Jade Rice Seeds as compensation. 1 He used those seeds to improve his Planting Skill and began building the foundation for his rapid growth. 2

Fang Yuan’s early rise combined farming, medicine, martial arts, and the consumption of spiritual crops. He protected Secluded Valley from outside interference, treated important figures, and gained Zhou Wenwu as a subordinate. 32 53 His cultivation later expanded into Dream Master techniques, allowing him to enter dreams, extract memories, and cultivate alongside martial arts. 113 167

After becoming a Martial Ancestor and Dream Master, Fang Yuan developed influence in Qingye City, negotiated with You Mountain Prefecture, and took formal office in Great Gan under the identity Yang Fan. 117 118 173 He used that identity to settle accounts with the Yang family, killing Madam Wang before escaping with the Bright Moon treasure. 175

Fang Yuan subsequently traveled through numerous worlds and power systems, repeatedly recovering his strength with unusual speed after possession or descent. This ability became the foundation of his journey through myriad worlds. 240 348 He later founded the Armory Tower to collect Divine Weapons and Demonic Weapons, forcing the martial artists around King Pan’s Hall into submission. 809

Fang Yuan commonly conceals his strength and adopts different appearances and identities. His appearance changes substantially with his cultivation, possession, transformations, and disguises.

Fang Yuan is notably calm, pragmatic, and difficult to provoke. He accepts setbacks without public outbursts, as demonstrated when his engagement is dissolved, but he does not forget threats or debts. 1 He prioritizes cultivation, personal security, and long-term advantage over sentimentality, often declining to entangle himself in conflicts that do not benefit him. 199 204

He is highly strategic and routinely conceals his cultivation, intentions, or identity. He manipulates political situations when useful, accepts official protection for resources, and uses captured enemies as bargaining tools. 37 173 188 His methods can be ruthless: he kills enemies to remove future threats, destroys hostile institutions, and withholds mercy when secrecy or survival is at stake. 87 353 1024

Despite this, Fang Yuan can be generous toward people he accepts as subordinates or disciples.
