The Ragefang and the Foe Butcher drew near the defense platforms around Saint George.

The bishop had already cut off communications of his own accord. Lu Jin didn't want to try persuading him again, so he simply ordered the Fierce Angels to prepare for battle.

Saint George could not fall into enemy hands, no matter what. This wasn't the result of Lu Jin getting carried away in a moment of passion; he had thought it through carefully.

From a strategic perspective,

only one warband had a clear objective: to push deep into Imperial territory. This warband fleet would have no reinforcements. Abaddon's fleet was indeed advancing triumphantly, though, and after the Imperium suffered defeat in fleet engagements, it had abandoned many systems, including Saint George, turning them into a buffer zone and providing strategic space to regroup its fleets.

There were plenty of orbital defense platforms around Saint George, and the two warships could use them to their advantage.

Fighting that warband fleet wasn't like trying to stop a chariot with a mantis.

From the Chapter's perspective,

the Fierce Angels were far from Manros. Aside from Saint George, there wouldn't be another Imperial world that could provide them with supplies, so Saint George was essential to the Fierce Angels.

"Are you a Renegade Chapter, too?"

The communications window popped up again. This time, the person on the screen wasn't the bishop but an administrator from a void station.

"I have some supplies here. Take them and then leave."

"Don't make pointless sacrifices. I believe there's more than one Saint George World in the galaxy. There'll be people who understand you and help you. There's no shortage of wise people among the servants of the great God-Emperor!"
