Background / History

Deng Jiugong transmigrates into the body of Great Shang’s General of Sanshan Pass, retaining memories of his prior life and knowledge of the original Investiture of the Gods fate awaiting his family. He recognizes that Jiang Ziya will exploit Tu Xingsun’s planned marriage to Deng Chanyu to force his surrender, and resolves to change that outcome. At the time, he commands 300,000 troops and serves as one of Great Shang’s principal military pillars. 1

His God-Tier Selection System grants him the Time Dao Disk, cultivation resources, Great Dao Merit, the Vast Void Divine Blade Art, and increasingly powerful treasures. These resources allow him to overcome the limitations of his original mortal foundation and rapidly progress beyond the cultivation expected of a military general. 1 2 16

Deng first establishes his battlefield reputation by personally killing Dragon Beard Tiger, despite the latter’s late-stage Heavenly Immortal cultivation. Though Yang Jian subsequently overwhelms him in a direct exchange, Kong Xuan arrives to protect him, beginning their long association at Three Mountains Pass. 9 10

He later becomes Grand Tutor of Chaoge and develops Three Mountains Pass into a fortified power base. Rather than merely commanding soldiers, he cultivates and equips his children, generals, disciples, mounts, and allied cultivators with elixirs, divine abilities, formations, and magic treasures. 53 67 83 155 258

His influence expands beyond Great Shang after he gains the respect of the Sect of Interception. Tongtian Sect Master seeks to take him as a disciple, and Deng eventually becomes the sect’s Deputy Sect Leader. His growing force includes the Sect of Interception, the Ancestral Witches, the Demon Clan, the Ancient Three Clans, and numerous revived primordial beings. 145 155 235 378

By the later stages of the story, Deng confronts Saints, Chaos Demon Gods, Hongjun, the Chaos Daoist, and the Great Dao itself. He survives repeated Great Dao tribulations, attains the Dao, and raises the Heaven, Earth, and Human paths through his advancement. 240 586 637 647

Personality

Deng Jiugong is pragmatic, calculating, and highly protective of those under his command. His original goal is to prevent Deng Chanyu and his family from suffering their predetermined fate, and he consistently preserves resources for his children and subordinates rather than using everything on himself. 1 16 155

He is ambitious but rarely reckless. When a direct assault offers poor odds, he prefers to withdraw, cultivate, prepare treasures, or improve his allies before acting. This caution remains even after he gains the ability to fight opponents far above his realm. 34 83 201

He is also confident when dealing with powerful figures. He treats Yin Hong as a junior despite his royal status, challenges Daoist Duobao without revealing his full strength, and carefully evaluates Tongtian Sect Master’s offer instead of accepting the prestige of sainthood at face value. 54 145 153
