Background / History

Tongtian Sect Master is one of the Three Pure Ones, each formed from Pangu’s Nascent Soul. His original cultivation derives from the Upper Clarity Art, itself descended from Pangu’s Nine Revolutions Origin Art. After gathering Pangu’s Nascent Soul Origin, his cultivation begins shifting toward the complete Nine Revolutions Origin Art. 2 190 340

He leads the Sect of Interception, whose four personal disciples are Daoist Duobao, Golden Spirit Mother, Turtle Spirit Mother, and Wu Dang Mother. Yun Xiao is the foremost outer disciple. 561

During the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, Tongtian initially endures the losses inflicted upon his disciples because he does not wish to sever his brotherhood with Grand Pure Laozi and Primordial Heavenly Venerate. The deaths of his disciples and repeated pressure from the Chan Sect eventually force him to abandon that restraint. 147 184 185

He summons Deng Jiugong intending to make him a personal disciple, but Deng refuses and instead proposes becoming Vice Sect Master. Tongtian accepts, placing Deng above all Sect of Interception disciples and treating him as an equal in authority. 145 146

Personality

Tongtian is proud, initially expecting Deng Jiugong to accept his offer of discipleship without hesitation. Deng’s talent, fortune, treasures, and mastery of formations instead repeatedly leave him astonished and financially strained. 145

His strongest loyalty is to his disciples and lineage. Though he tolerates provocations from his elder brothers for a long time, he becomes openly hostile when the Chan Sect and Western Teachings injure his disciples or target Deng Jiugong, the Sect of Interception’s Vice Sect Master. 169 184 185

After Deng’s rise, Tongtian becomes notably receptive to learning. During their discussions of sword and formation Dao, he accepts Deng as his “Dao brother” despite his own seniority and Saintly status. 338

Abilities & Skills

Saintly Authority

As a Saint, Tongtian can command the might of heaven and earth within the Primordial Era as his own power. 152

  • His casual sword strike forces Zhunti to use his full strength merely to defend himself. 169
  • He fights Jieyin and Zhunti simultaneously with only the Qingping Sword and does not fall into disadvantage. 170
  • As Dao Ancestor of the Heavenly Dao, he places his Nascent Soul imprint within the Heavenly Dao’s origin and can appoint Heavenly Dao Saints. 627 628
  • His own power is insufficient to sustain the Heavenly Dao’s fourth awakening without support from additional Saints. 627

Sword Dao

Tongtian’s primary combat path is the Way of the Sword. His sword aura is repeatedly described as sharp, fierce, and saturated with killing intent. 169 190

  • His sword qi nearly destroys Jieyin and Zhunti after he reaches Primordial Grand Unity Golden Immortal Perfection. 355
  • His Four Immortal-Slaying Swords later reveal the Sword Law alongside the Soul Law after his Primordial Wuji Golden Immortal breakthrough. 562
  • His sword attacks can be empowered by the force of the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation. 356
  • Even at his heightened strength, Hongjun can shatter the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation and threaten him with a single palm strike. 356

Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation

Tongtian’s signature formation is built from the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords and the Immortal-Slaying Formation Diagram. 190 328

  • He states that fewer than four Saints cannot break the formation. 328
  • Deng Jiugong improves its formation runes using Great Dao Laws, substantially increasing the Myriad Immortals Great Formation’s power and helping Tongtian’s side. 290
  • Deng later refines the swords and formation diagram into a Low-grade Chaos Spirit Treasure before gifting the upgraded formation to Tongtian. 337
  • The Four Immortal-Slaying Swords are subsequently upgraded to High-grade Chaos Spirit Treasures; the resulting formation becomes an exceptionally powerful High-grade Chaos Spirit Treasure. 562
  • Yang Mei considers the formation threatening, though its power is not enough to decisively handle him. 562

Pangu Nascent Soul and Soul Law

Tongtian’s connection to Pangu deepens after he gathers Pangu’s Nascent Soul Origin and cultivates the complete Nine Revolutions Origin Art. 340 392

  • His complete Pangu Nascent Soul Origin greatly increases his enlightenment speed and redirects his cultivation away from the original Upper Clarity Art. 340
  • He combines with the Twelve Ancestral Witches through the Pangu Divine Hall, strengthening the Pangu True Body to the early Primordial Wuji Golden Immortal level. 532
  • He receives the Soul Sword after risking injury to battle a Soul Demon God within Xuanyuan’s sea of consciousness. 399
  • The Soul Sword supports both his Sword Dao and Soul Law, accelerating his progress in each. 399

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Qingping Sword — Tongtian’s personal sword, used in his clashes with Zhunti and Jieyin. 170
  • Four Immortal-Slaying Swords — Core swords of the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation; upgraded to High-grade Chaos Spirit Treasures by Deng Jiugong. 562
  • Immortal-Slaying Formation Diagram — Formation diagram used alongside the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords. 328 562

  • Daoist Duobao — Chief personal disciple of the Sect of Interception. Tongtian takes pride in Duobao’s mid-stage Quasi-Saint cultivation, though Deng later defeats him. 145 159
  • Yun Xiao — Outer disciple of the Sect of Interception. Tongtian is grateful that Deng helps rescue her, and she later agrees to give her master another chance despite past grievances. 145 628
  • Primordial Heavenly Venerate — Elder brother and leader of the Chan Sect. Tongtian’s reluctance to break with him ends as the Chan Sect kills Sect of Interception disciples and targets Deng. 174 185
  • Grand Pure Laozi — Elder brother and opponent in the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation. Laozi proves stronger in their initial duel, though their power gap is limited. 190
  • Jieyin and Zhunti — Western Saints who oppose Tongtian and attempt to seize Deng Jiugong. Tongtian later selects Jieyin as a Heavenly Dao Saint but excludes Zhunti. 169 627
  • Hongjun — Enemy who views Tongtian as a threat because of his potential connection to the Human Way and Pangu’s remaining influence. 314 328
