Background and History

Gu Yue separated Na'er from herself as a subordinate personality, intending to place her near the bearer of the Golden Dragon King bloodline and use her to learn about the human world. Her false childhood memories were hastily modeled after beggars, leaving Na'er timid, submissive, and dressed in shabby clothing. 11 13

Na'er was nearly abducted by human traffickers before Nan Liujing rescued her. Drawn to the security he offered, she remained at his side and gradually came to regard him as her brother. His kindness helped her overcome the fear and isolation created by her fabricated memories. 12 13 30

Bi Ji later arrived as Na'er's supposed aunt, temporarily activated her dragon Martial Soul, and took her away to prepare her for Shrek Academy. Na'er subsequently became Yun Ming's disciple and remained close to Ya Li. 30 48

When Gu Yue attempted to retrieve the subordinate personality's memories, she discovered that Na'er's experiences with Nan Liujing had made reintegration impossible. Na'er refused to be treated as a disposable vessel, confronted Gu Yue with the threat of mutual destruction, and proposed a wager: if Gu Yue could make Nan Liujing become attached to her, Na'er would merge willingly. 31
