Background

Gu Yue is the Silver Dragon King and sovereign of the Soul Beasts. Though her injuries had not fully healed, she retained main god-level cultivation; she nevertheless sealed her cultivation and Spiritual Sense to enter human society, partly to avoid drawing the God Realm’s attention and partly to understand humanity firsthand. 31

Before entering society herself, Gu Yue separated Na'er as a subordinate personality and sent her to observe humanity. She initially believed she could control Na'er for three years and reclaim her if necessary. 11 Na'er's attachment to Nan Liujing disrupted that plan: after Gu Yue accessed Na'er's memories, mental feedback made forced fusion impossible, and Na'er inherited thirty percent of the Silver Dragon King’s power. 31

Unable to merge with Na'er, Gu Yue accepted a wager: if she could make Nan Liujing become attached to her, Na'er would willingly merge with her. She also sought to enter the Spirit Pagoda’s core ranks, intending to use its influence and resources for the Soul Beast race. 31 51
